Re: Robben Ford UK Tour 2013

My fave Blues player - Holmfirth here I come !!

Tx for that Kenny

It would be remiss of me not to post a link to my fave Robben Blues live solo.  The phrasing, timing, jazz inflections etc. just get this as close to perfect as you can get.

If you are interested in the London gig, Leicester Sq Theatre don't know anything about it yet and the Gig Cartel don't know when they'll be on sale either. They'll mail me when they are, or so they say. smile

Re: Robben Ford UK Tour 2013

i saw robben live once in nashville in recent years and it was by far one of the greatest live shows I have ever seen.

Re: Robben Ford UK Tour 2013

very envious here, wish I could get the chance to see him one day, he ain't coming to Alabama that's for sure. Wish I had caught that Nashville show. Ya'll have a great time of it, he's one fine blues artist.

Re: Robben Ford UK Tour 2013

Enjoy. I had the fortune to see him twice in just one year here. An amazing artist and his band is equally talented. You'll see chords and fretwork that is pretty unique. Very nice vocals as well.

A word to the wise, don't be "that guy" that Robben sees taping him, you just might end up being the focus of his wrath.

Re: Robben Ford UK Tour 2013

I'd like to see a Robben Ford appreciation thread at some point, not so much underrated as maybe underappreciated. Somebody got this vid with good sound quality, I assume then it was his people. NOW if the crowd would just shut the hell up and listen. Great tone he's getting on the Tele, my fav guitar.

Or taking photos !!

Normally someone comes over the sound system just before the show and specifically says - no taping or pictures, but theres nearly always one and boy does he not like it !!

Last couple of times I've seem him, he used the tele sparingly and his main instrument was that Japanese Les Paul look-alike by a lyhier called Taku Sakashita (who got murdered a couple of years ago).

Theres a brilliant short interview with Guthrie Govan who describes jamming with Robben and how to try and imitate his sound.

Yes, I remember the sound at the Leicester Sq Theatre wasn't great for the Eric Johnson gig in the summer, but Pete, Maggie and David recently saw JST there (I bought these tickets before booking a holiday for the same date roll ) and they said the sound was ok, apart from the usual blurred vocals from Joanne.

And, yes, I did hear you smile and I didn't doubt you (would I? big_smile). I was just trying to find out when they were going on sale. You know me, I like to be at the front of the queue. wink
