Just pulled the trigger on a JB 335 yesterday. Sadly had to trade in a Custom Shop EC Strat & Music Man Axis SS Rosewood. The wife's happy: two steps back one step forward.
Just curious, I ordered the guitar from GC (14 in stock), can I do anything on the selection of the serial number? Not that it really matters but if I can get a low serial number then fine. I certainly wish something could be done about the grain pattern but they're not going to be opening a box for me.

Congrats! The boxes should have the serial numbers on the outside of the box so you should be able to choose. Why aren't they going to open the box for you? Certainly they should inspect it before sending it out, and snap a picture.
FYI, Musician's Friend has some with serial #'s in the high 60's, 70's and low 100's

I love my 335 and do other's here, so not trying to stir things up, just sharing. I stumbled upon this video about the 335's neck tenon, "There is no tenon to body contact on the underside of the tenon". He said his "sounded very nasally and plinky", must have gotten a bad one.

Went to pick up my JB 335 at GC this evening but sadly I left the store without the guitar. The first thing I saw when I opened the case was the bridge tone knob sitting on top of the guitar cover. There was no crack in the knob but it fit very loosely and would come off if the wind blew. Their tech tried to spread the pot shaft and after about three or four tries it fit snuggly but not secure.
Then I noticed some sort of reddish compound in two places left on the side of the headstock.
Question to owners: this guitar did not have the plastic film covering the pick guard, did your guitar come with the plastic film?
Something tells me this was not a "new" guitar. FWIW the serial number is 105.

So sorry it didn't work out. There was no plastic film on the pick guard, as I believe others have said as well. I watched them take my guitar out of the new box so the GC sales guy was also seeing it for the first time. There is VOS "gunk" on it, not sure why that was necessary. Doesn't give the impression of old, but dirty. To me they've been cranking these out so fast, probably not taking any extra care. Little pet peeves like sawdust in the case. I hope mine will last a lifetime, it really sounds and plays great. Hopefully you will find another.

The Gibson Joe Bonamassa ES-335 recreates the revered bluesman’s vintage Dot The Gibson Joe Bonamassa ES-335 is the latest signature model to be produced to bear the name of, arguably, the most talked about blues guitarist in recent years. The Bonamassa musical Juggernaut shows no signs of slowing, but then, when you consider he was opening shows for B.B. King at the age o0f 12, this hardly comes as a surprise… A man famed for his love of classic vintage guitars, and the staggering number he owns, one of the standout instruments in his collection is his prized 1961 ES-335. A stunning early example of this landmark Gibson model, this is the kind of guitar that makes guitar fans drool. Luckily, Gibson has made an accurate recreation of this amazing instrument, and Dawsons are due to receive some of them, just as soon as they are released! Accurately recreated neck profile The Gibson Joe Bonamassa ES-335 ‘s inspiration comes from a point very early in the Dot’s history (the guitar first appeared in 1958). Constructed from laminated maple, the 335 is semi hollow, with a solid maple block running through the centre. The Joe Bonamassa ES-335 follows this template, but is constructed with spliced plain maple/ poplar/ maple 3-ply laminate for the top, back and sides. Like many of Gibson ‘s signature models, the original source guitar is recreated in detail. The neck profile of the Joe Bonamassa 335 copies that of his own guitar accurately. After measurement it was discovered that this was 0.050” thinner than a standard ’59 round profile. The neck is constructed from a single piece of mahogany, with rosewood fingerboard, and those famous dot inlays. The pickups equipped to the Gibson Joe Bonamassa ES-335 are two ’57 Classic Humbuckers- the pickup models that replicate the original P.A.F. models that appeared on early Gibson ‘s. These are wired via Bonamassa’s chosen CTS pots, with a 3-way pickup selector switch, complete with the sought-after ‘bumblebee’ capacitors. An ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge provides further vintage detail, with a lightweight aluminium stopbar behind, and vintage tulip TonePro tuners. To ensure further authenticity, the Joe Bonamassa ES-335 features a VOS finish, in a Vintage Sunburst specific to this guitar, that replicates the vintage fading of Bonamassa’s own. Here’s a summary of the Gibson Joe Bonamassa ES-335 ‘s key details: Recreation of Joe Bonamassa’s ES-335 – an accurate copy of the ’61 ES-225 he owns Semi hollow body – maple/ poplar/ maple 3-ply laminate top, back and sides with a solid maple central block Accurate neck profile – mahogany, 1 piece neck with accurate neck profile, slimmer than standard ’59 round profile, and holly wood headstock veneer Rosewood fingerboard – 22-frets complete with dot inlays ’57 Classic Humbuckers – replicate P.A.F. vintage tone, wired via ‘bumblebee’ capacitors, CTS pots and a 3-way selector switch Unique finish – Vintage sunburst specific to the Gibson Joe Bonamassa ES-335 Complete with custom shop case
Congrats! Welcome to the forum. I've added you guitar to the list on page 1.

I have it on good authority that there were 365 of these made - and see #363 in the list above, so that tracks with the info...

Hi all, Andy from Derby in the UK, Adding #214 to the list.
First post on the forum for me. Picked it up from a store near me today, only I didn't go in with the intention of buying a guitar at all, just to look at the shop really lol.
I have a fender custom shop 63 heavy relic strat with Abby pickups on it which I love and thought, hmm ill try a 335, so I tried a std es335, wasn't blown away by it I must say, then just as I was about to leave, I spotted this one, at the time I didn't know it was the JB model, I just liked its VOS look and feel, not a fan of nice new shiny shiny guitars, i like the worn in feel like my relic strat, but when I eventually sat down and played it, I was aaaaaaagggghh thats the one!!!!
So pulled out the plastic and bought it, been playing it all evening now. My poor custom shop strats sitting in a corner now crying for attention lol.
