Topic: Problem in Ball Peen Hammer?

I don't know if it's just me but at 29 sec there's a noise that doesn't belong? It was in my i-tunes verzion which I replaced when I downloaded the CD. At first I thought it was a Cello but it sounds too electrical. Is it just me?  Thanks, Cathy

Re: Problem in Ball Peen Hammer?

I think I hear what you're talking about- its the distorted guitar that comes in right after in the background just doing a little volume swell...

That's what I hear as well, starts at about the 19 sec. mark and ends at about the 33 sec. mark when the drums kick in. To me it sounds like a synthesizer, but it could be a guitar. Same sound around the 1 min. and 2:25 mark.

Yeah its either a synth or a guitar- I was thinking guitar cause I can't recall Joe ever using a synth before (?) and the guitar that comes in right after has the same tone...

Seeing as how there are keyboards on the album, who knows?

Who says women's senses aren't sharper than men's. Cathy, you're not pregnant are you? When my ex was pregnant with our son I swear she could see, hear, and smell things beyond the scope of most wildlife. Now I'll have to listen for this glitch if that's even what it is. I never would have picked it up as my hearing is average at best, especially after that Who concert in SF in 1970.

It is strings by the Bovaland Orchestra. Led by Jeff Bova. Which are synthazised strings.

Re: Problem in Ball Peen Hammer?

Thanks Jim. I don't notice it as much in the car although I did have to flatten the bass due to vibration. I really hear it with my headphones on. Glad to know it's not just me. Dawg, you are too funny! I have really good hearing. I'm an earplug kind of chick!! I have no palate and I can't see for cr*p anymore, so they say you get to have another sense heighten. And, no, common sense doesn't count.......  Cathy

Thanks for clearing that up Jim!

Re: Problem in Ball Peen Hammer?

I love that noise, especially when it gets louder later on.  The layers he put on this album fascinate me.  I love that its finally like "a studio album" from Joe and not just a live set in the studio.  He did so much minimal extra stuff on these songs that really fill out the sound.  Like the swirling noise on Seagull. yeeahhhh
