couple of good ones on the tube tomorrow. I did not realize that Duke-KY have not played in ten years, it just doesn't seem that long ago. Kentucky is at home, GO SEC! Mich State should rebound and give Kansas a good game.

Despite playing poorly the other night I don't see UK losing to Duke.  The Blue Devils were overrated last year and again this year.  They do have a good center and a HoF coach that'll make it interesting.  MSU ambushed by UConn is vulnerable at this stage, but will get better.

Tres - Check out the Spartans' freshman guard Gary Harris.  He's from Indy and was Mr. Basketball last year.  He should be in our line-up, but he waited too long to pick a school and there wasn't a vacancy for him.  He'll be a stud for Izzo and is picked to be Big Ten freshman of the year.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

I will check him out, tough one to have get away but obviously not the schools fault.
Bama will be on ESPN2 Thursday night at the 2K Sports Classic vs Oregon State from Madison Square Garden, 6:00 CST. If we win that then we get the winner of Purdue-Villanova on Friday. We have underachieved to say the least so far, the easy game I thought we had last Friday vs South Dakota State was anything but easy. It took a 3 pointer at the buzzer to win at home.

Early season blues can hit the best of them. There is a lot of parity in Div. 1 with a few teams stacked and the rest fairly even. I'll be tuning in to watch the biggies this weekend.

Sorry for your loss Rick. We will miss you in the MWC but looking forward to our games this year.

I had a great time at the Rebel Game last night. It was a packed house and my voice is gone... The Rebels gave us a scare last week, but an ugly win is still a win. Rebels are ranked 18th and looking forward to a good season.

Take care,
Bill

I'll miss the rivalry with the Running Rebels but we'll get some new ones. Your team should end up top of the heap in the division. The loss was no big deal. The weather factor was such an aberration that no real meaning can come from it. It favored Syracuse's style and they won. Swap ends at the beginning and it might have gone the other way. Outside shots were curving and some missed the backboard completely in the gusts. tongue Free throws were a crap shoot.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Great one so far! 2nd half will be interesting! Tried to make it here to post pre game to say what the commentators said earlier when they mentioned most of UK's players weren't even born when UK lost to Duke in "The Game" an interview locally with Cauley-Stein, he did not even know what "The Shot" was? I'll never forget that game 20 years ago. I knew there would be a lot of talk of "The Game" and of course Laettner is there and was interviewed. Funny how no one ever mentions "The Stomp"  when Laettner stomped all over Aminu Timberlake and called for a technical!

Liz,

I remember being at Don Mattingly's bar in Evansville that day and getting giddy watching IU stomp UCLA in the early game.  The second one we stayed to watch and it was a game for the ages.  I was pulling for the Cats as they gave everything they had to win that game.  Laettner's shot was an incredible ending and left everyone in the bar speechless.  We would lose to them too the next game compliments of "Mr. T", Ted Valentine, who fouled out four of our starters and got in a fistfight at halftime with fellow referee Ed Hightower who accused him of racism against Bob Knight.  Funny how Coach K played under Bobby at Army and was Knight's assistant at IU in the early 70's and I'm sure was privately appalled at Valentine's officiating.  Despite all that we only lost by 3 points and the game has been burned in memory to all Hoosier fans.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Tough loss last night for UK, but they'll only get better.  I think it's the basketball IQ that's missing with this bunch plus Ryan Harrow is not helping the offense.  At this point Kentucky is not the third best team in the country, but by March Cal will have the engine purring and will be a difficult opponent for anyone.  My Hoosiers included.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

OMG, you got an avatar after all this time, and a very cool one at that. I watched Sparty-KU and it was a nailbiter, a great game that the refs almost blew with a no-call foul at the end. Tom was livid, and Jay Bilas pointed out they made a terrible mistake in KU's favor. Harris looked really good, especially in the first half, and that Appling boy can play lights out. Top ten is gonna look different next week, Kentucky is going to have to grow up in a hurry, coach Cal can get it done.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

a heartstopper last night at the Gardens, Bama pulls it out with a 3 in the last 10 seconds. It should never have come to that. Bama opened the 2nd half on a tear and went to a 15 point lead, only to give it all up and have to fight for their lives. It's early, we may improve some, hopefully. I don't even know yet who won the other game, we'll get Purdue or Villanova tonight in the final. ROLL TIDE!

it will be Jay Wright and the Villanova squad. Jay is a great coach and gets the most out of his players, just hoping Anthony Grant can figure out a way to keep it close.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Bama not only kept it close in the first half while missing a bunch of free throws, but blew Villanova out of the water in the 2nd half. Oddly, the top scorers for both teams got into foul trouble and were mostly a non-factor. Trevor Lacey for Bama did have 4 or 5 assists in the 2nd half, but I think he scored only 2 points. Bama shot the 3 ball better than I've ever seen in recent years, Trevor Releford (brother plays for Kansas) was 5 of 5 from the arc, totally unconcious. The Bama D was superb, crashing the defensive boards repeatedly.
I am much more optimistic now about our chances to grow, mature and compete with most anybody, but it's still early. Our 5 star freshman Devonta Pollard has not looked good so far in his limited minutes. He's a little out of control at times, we need him to grow up in a hurry. Anyway, the MSG audience was eerily quiet in the 2nd half, definitely a pro Villanova gathering.
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

How bout them Butler Bulldogs? They tried to give it away at the very end, NC defensive pressure was causing serious problems. Butler's freshman, I forget his name, is a real sharpshooter from 3 land. They beat up the Tar Heels on the boards in the first half, great win for their program.
Indiana got a real break at the end of regulation, that could have been called a charge. However I don't know if the Hoyas were in the bonus, and the clock was down near 0. Good win in the OT, Tom will take that.
Georgia gave UCLA everything they didn't want and then some, pretty decent team even if Indiana spanked them.

Tres - Indiana didn't spank the Bulldogs.  I thought Georgia played some inspired ball against both teams and will only get better from here.  As for my Hoosiers, I find it remarkable that we out-rebounded the Hoyas with three of our big men out of the lineup.  Georgetown is certain to rise in the rankings and I'm glad we got the win.  If our two suspended players were playing last night like Shabazz was we would've won a lot bigger.  I'll add a video of Hanner to emphasize.....

Only person that can do this other than Hanner is Dwight Howard.  Incredible, and a must watch.  This kid is flat out scary....

They said he was putting a shot up about every 20 seconds. How does that happen when the other team scores 104 points? There was a kid on the other team that had 60-70 points, I forget how many.
