Joe's old effects pedals

I was just watching this old video of you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC0MRnKm … re=related where you are demo-ing the effects on your pedalboard and I realised from the board then to his board now you use maybe 1 (Boss DD-3) of the 10 or so pedals on that board.

I'm thinking it's just wanting to have a more pure sound, more "guitar to amp". I was thinking, is it also the fact alot of those effects are more "boutique-ish" and less easily available and straight of the shelf at a GC sort of thing as well? Where the tube screamer clones became actual tube screamers etc. Sorry if this has been asked before.
