Topic: A Tale of Sloe Gin

I left for work at my usual 5:50AM...dragging a bit and I know I've got a long day ahead of me. But Amazon says they'll deliver a package tomorrow that should bring a smile to my face.
The day's much longer than I thought it would be and I leave work at 7:30PM with at least an hours drive ahead of me. I can't stop thinking about Joe's new release on the drive home. I've got three copies coming tomorrow and I'm trying to make a final decision on the lucky recipients of copies 2 & 3.
I'm within shouting distance of my house by 8:40PM, but I can't stand it anymore. I stop at Best Buy because I can't wait another day. I've heard a few tunes and I want to hear the rest...I NEED to hear the rest! I'm feeling a bit invigorated as I walk through the store. Joe's usually in the rock section. Let's see...Bowie, Bon Jovi...Bonamassa. Here we go: Blues Deluxe, Had to Cry Today, You & Me. No Sloe Gin! Maybe I should check the Latin section...I remember Joe was filed under Joe Bossa Nova once, but it's not there. Not in the Blues section either. What kinda po-dunk town did I move to???
I exit quickly and head to Borders. Not a Bonamassa cd in sight. Better head over to their Blues section. It's a display of about 50 cd's and there staring back at me is a single copy of Sloe Gin! I'm hoping the other 50 cd's got bought before I got there and this wasn't the store's only copy.
I sit in my car and unwrap the cd for my 5 minute ride home. I've heard Ball Peen Hammer courtesy of the street team e-mail, so I listen to One of These Days. I arrive home and eject the CD and go into my house. It's 9:15 PM when I get home. It's been a long day! I'm making something to eat when my wife comes downstairs. Seagull is playing. "You just had a 15 hour day, what are you so happy about"??? I just pointed to the cd player ...."oh, is this Joe's new album"??
I just read some survey where something like 70% of young adults said they were happy when they were listening to music. It seems to work for the older crowd too!
Thanks Joe!

Great story Bill, I'm glad all of us on the forum share your passion for Joes music. I got mine last night, opened it, but didnt listen to it. I told the wifey I was gioing to blow the windows out with it, she looked at me like "please honey not tonight". So I need a new wife I guess, I got to put down my foot this time....***damn I hope she dont read this, she will knock me silly!***.....I will have it cranked to the max on the way to work though.

Re: A Tale of Sloe Gin

The Best Buy in Charlotte has Joe under the Rock category and not blues, which is ok with me.  Have not checked the local stores as yet to see if they Sloe Gin in stock.  Usually the FYE here has the best selection of Joe in stock.

Re: A Tale of Sloe Gin

I too found my local F.Y.E. lacking of any Sloe Gin . They called me yesterday to tell me they had the 2 that I pre-ordered . Was talking to a friend after , and he asked me to pick him up a copy when I went to get mine. I get to the F.Y.E. and the clerk hands me my 2 copies ( yeeessss ):) I says to him I need another one, and he tells me " we only got in the 2 that you pre-ordered "  WHAT ? ---  WHY???  He tells me its all computer generated according what sells. I remind him that the Joe Bonamassa section is still empty since over a month ago , when I alerted them to it while pre-ordering "Sloe Gin". He gives me an "Oh Really" so I give him an"OH Really" back along with "does anyone here know how to use a computer?"   Because obviously if his cd's aren't  in stock they've sold and your comp. should tell you to order more. Now he's on the defensive as I've obviously insulted his intelligence, "Well" he says "We got both Robert Randolph cd's in stock because he sells and Joe Bonamassa doesn't "So I say " it's pretty hard to sell something you don't have in stock " He shrugs his shoulders and gives me an "Oh Well"  . So before I chocked the guy I had to bite my tongue and leave. On my way out he yells " since you pre-ordered those 2 copies maybe the comp. will see that and we'll get more in stock check back "    " Ya maybe" .................grrrrr          Paul/JBrules

Why do you think I listen to music when I'm doing homework, or try to when I'm studying, until I realize I'm paying more attention to that than the words on the page?

Bill,

As Shred said, good story and I feel your pain too about the stores. Went to Best Buy last night because I had $20 coming in free stuff from their Rewards card. I knew I had to pick up some CDRs and cases because I've been copying so many Joe live shows and handing them out. I, like you, have not received my copies from Amazon yet, so I thought I'll buy a copy there too. Not only did the Best Buy closest to me not have the Sloe Gin CD, they didn't even have a slot for Joe in any category!! Talk about being PO'd!! I've spoken to one of the managers before because their Blues section is about as wide as my butt and no, that's not very wide yet. But their Blues section is still a sliver compared to all of the Rap crap section. I must apologize here to the fans out there who are Rap fans. I have been informed that my opinions can lead to "hurt feelings", but there's definetely something wrong in this world when you've got a full isle of RAP CRAP and NO JOE BONAMASSA in a store!! Needless to say, I will not let this rest with this particular Best Buy. I plan to not only discuss this failure on their part with the store's management, but I'll be writing a letter to their corporate offices indicating my displeasure with this situation. I ask everyone on the forum to complain and write letters to any store that does not carry Joe's CDs. The world of music in stores is broken and it needs to be fixed. Thank goodness for Amazon.com!!!!!

I've found that they put JB in the Rock section at Best Buy- did you check there?

You're not kidding.  I use them almost exclusively for all my music purchases, them and NEHrecords.com...any time in the past when I was looking for music in a store, it's never been there.  I don't know if it's just my taste, or what.  I'm so happy for you guys that already have Sloe Gin.  Hopefully today I'll have mine.  smile
