Re: Frankenstorm aka Hurricane Sandy

There's no castle doctrine in NY. Your supposed to flee and let them rob you. If they cut themselves on your TV or trip and break a leg on your steps, they'll take you to court. No bull dude! Most in NYC don't own guns and can't. And thats as far as I will take this here.

Wow Spider, I had no idea! That is harsh. Where's the National Guard? A half million people just abandoned to fend for themselves as it appears. sad

Re: Frankenstorm aka Hurricane Sandy

For all my friends in the northeast - please check around and see if any local groups are taking donations to people in New Jersey/New York - and don't forget the PETS!  I just dropped a lot of cat food for one local group that is going to Staten Island next week - dogs and cats need stuff, too.

Thanks -

Sandy

My son's high school was collecting food, clothing and personal items to send up this friday so I sent him in with a couple bags of stuff.

Re: Frankenstorm aka Hurricane Sandy

Anyone that has expertise in this area, insurance or heating, please feel free to voice your opinion.  My question revolves around dealing with the insurance company.  The adjuster cancelled on me this past Wednesday for another week, because of the storm on Wednesday, all of my insulation under the house needs to be replaced, so we have photos etc. I have a $2000 deductible, so I will be opening my wallet, but my house is in good shape, so I'm not really complaining. I've been a homeowner for over 25 years and I have never had a claim.

My concern is my one year old heater, which is working right now.  I don't know how long it was sitting in water, the water did make the pilot go out. My hot water tank is right next to it and that seems to be working too.  The insurance agent said I need to get the heater inspected, but when I called the guy that installed the heater, he said I don't need to see it, your warranty is now voided.  Which puts me in a predicament...if I have a problem within a year with corrosion or near future etc. its at my cost.  I'm just getting the feeling I'm going to have a hard time protecting myself from any heater problem in the near future that arises because of it taking on salt water.

Re: Frankenstorm aka Hurricane Sandy

If they will replace them, do so. That water damage will cause the electric parts to fail in short order.
