Topic: Eric Steckel "Dismantle The Sun"...

Well, I know the world is coming to an end now, there is just too much good music that has come out in the past year. wink And Ladies and Gents, just when you thought it was safe to go back outside, young Eric Steckel comes out with what he calls his greatest album entitled, "Dismantle The Sun"! cool I'd like to go on and on about this album, but simply trust me, you need to go and order this Baby as soon as you can. Ten songs of pure Blues Power through Eric's guitar and voice. My favorite? Got to be song number 3 called, "Empty Promises". Oh Mommy, this one will tear you up, Guaranteed!

very beautiful cover Roy, a proper use of the wah pedal. thanks for the trailer also, I'll buy it. great voice, he reminds me a lot of Matt Schofield but a little heavier on the guitar.

Re: Eric Steckel "Dismantle The Sun"...

Eric adored Michael Burks and his rendition of "Empty Promises" is a stellar homage. It's been fun watching him grow up and blossom. Another truly nice guy wink    Cathy

Nice return to form after the 2010 overindulgence.  He's always had a fine voice and skills, but this album's a big jump back into the fray and Eric as someone to watch.  Gotta love the cover and really like "Last Night".

Yes Cathy, it is a very fine homage and I'm looking forward enormously to getting my hands on the cds for us on the 22nd.

I had a nice chat with Eric about this song, and was very happy to hear that like you and I, he also thinks Empty Promises is one of the very top, greatest, baddest, most beautiful songs ever.

To Roy and others who may be less familiar with the many Michael versions available on youtube, I'd like to recommend the following two versions that have particular sentimental value for me -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Fo3DlR … re=related - sadly, the very last time Michael ever played the song. sad

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwEyRYCuots - this was only the second vid I ever shot, before I had a youtube account, which is why Eva kindly uploaded it for me. The first vid was the previous day, Joe with Dana. cool There is also a much better, more professional  film than mine from the same show here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awAZSGGxRJw

My love for this song has everything to do with Cathy, so to complete my EP circle, here's the version she saw on the LRBC. This film immediately knocked me out the moment I heard it, and I'll be eternally grateful to the dear witch for turning me on to the song, and the player. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RDMGnJoNQ0

(Eric wouldn't mind me talking about Michael versions.) smile

Re: Eric Steckel "Dismantle The Sun"...

Going to see him at The Gompelhof Mol Belgium on 25 November 2012.He's playing there together with Henrik Freischlader
Walter from Belgium

Re: Eric Steckel "Dismantle The Sun"...

I spoke with Eric via Facebook and had it not been that I already had people lined up for the Music Festival that I'm promoting, he would have been on the bill. However, there is always 2014 and my dream set up for that one would be...Eric, Ryan McGarvey and Davy Knowles plus a coupe of more bands. Will it happen? Gosh, I have no idea, but I'll try. wink

P.S. Too bad Joe B. is so expensive, he could show these Youngin's a thing or two! cool

I agree with you Tres, great voice and guitar work! In addition to this beautiful song, there are several others on the album. Most of the songs were written by Eric and his band mates. "Highway Bound" is another one of those songs that make you stop and think. Of course, there are others where Eric just lets his high powered Electric Blues guitar speak for itself. All in all, it's a great album.

A little story...Eric and I have been Facebook friends for some time now and he asked me to post his tour schedule earlier this year on Joe's forum, so people would know where he'd be. When this album came out, he sent a short blurb to a few people asking them to advertise the album. Well for me, the best way to advertise is to give a few copies away to friends, so I ordered 10 copies and asked if he could sign them. He forgot to do that and now, those 10 copies are already gone to friends. So I ordered another 10 copies and this time, he came through and signed them all. Just shows the young man knows how to market his albums too! wink lol

Re: Eric Steckel "Dismantle The Sun"...

WOW, Eric is really impressive!! I am trying to pinpoint exactly how old he was when I first saw him, maybe he was about 12 or at most, early teens. I remember thinking at that time, the only thing he didn't have going on was his voice, because he was so young.  With maturing vocals, Eric sounds GREAT, its really nice to see him catching on and being appreciated!

BluesMan- I don't know if you do stuff like this, but if you have time, update Eric's wikipedia page.

Not even sure how to do that, Angela. Eric said he put his heart and soul into this album and now at age 21, it appears he sure has taken a giant leap towards to Stars! smile

Much like Joe's, "Driving Towards The Daylight", Oli Brown's, "Here I Am" and Albert Cummings', "No Regrets", it has become stuck in my RAV4's CD player! wink

Yeah, gas prices aren't really funny.
Okay Walter, then we have to swing alone and make the bands feel welcome.
