Topic: my quick review of sloe gin
just got it today given it several listens. good album. love ball peen hammer, sloe gin, dirt in my pocket, black night, another kind of love. in fact i like about every track on the album. however, and i realize im in the minority on this, i am not too keen on the absence of guitar solos. his singing is better on this album than any of the others. ui just have to say i think guitar is and always has been by far his strongest point and could have been used more here. im not saying that solos are necessary to make a great song, i am saying that it appears that he has made it a point not to put them in as much when i thought they fit well in every song he has done past and present and took nothing away from the songs. listening to the title track reminds me why he is the king of blues rock though. the song is truly epic, i heard a live version awhile back and wasnt that turned on by it, but it must have been how it was recorded or something because i love it on the album. the man is in rare for on this one, makes it speak for sure. so all in all, good album, not his best to my way of thinking, i like both blues deluxe and you & me better, but this one is definitely worth buying and is everything joe said it would be prior to the release.
favorite tracks are sloe gin and dirt in my pocket. those are two of his all time best songs to me, and i really hope to hear him ploay dirt live.
