So I am of the opinion I can't crank my Blues Jr up loud. Its been modded and the amp pushes 15 to 18 watts now and has great distortion, but half way up is too loud. So I was thinking of ABY an Excelsior that is 13 watts. My theory is I can crank it louder and with a 15 inch speaker it will have a little more low end on tap for me. What do you think?
It looks very cool/ retro indeed.....Interesting 15 inch speaker in it as well....should have more bottom in theory.
I guess you could always try one on line and if you don't like ship her back...Are they made in Mexico or China ?

You'll never hear the difference you're chasing between 13 and 18 watts. If you think the Chinese cheapo will do it for you after you tinker around with it you might be better off cruising the markdown aisles at the local emporium. Sight unseen with premeditated mods because you think it will need them is only for a tinkerer looking for an unexpected bargain, but if the shoe fits.... If it has a return policy you're still out the freight.
(As a vendor of good stuff who sees folks come in burned with cheapos it is buyer beware on a lot of that stuff. A chintzy magnet is indicative of bad build quality elsewhere!)

Personally-I'm not a huge Made in China for Electronics especially in Guitar Amps.....
(I know, seems like everything is made there today). Good luck with your choice and decision....
Personally I would be happy buying American made or even North American (Mexico) at this point but I've already got a blues jr and 15 watts and everywhere I've played with my band I turn it half way up and its too loud. I'm stepping out and letting people play my amp and its too loud. This amp is 13 watts and its simple, I'm not looking for high gain my jr with the mods already has enough high gain. I'm hoping its a deep bass sounding amp after the speaker replacement. I'm not concerned with the electronics, to be honest I've cracked open some amps made in the UK and the USA and they are using cheap pots and these days. If the board is good I can put some caps in to open it up. Right now I'm wanting the speaker replaced and hopefully a used Excelsior to mod, even if I buy new I'd only have $390 in an amp and speaker with free shipping. I'm not about to send it back if I dislike it, and I don't plan on using it by itself. Remember ABY. I want something that fills the voids of the Jr which has quite a bit of gain after my mods I did. Its great at a lot of things like solos and cleans up ok but I want a full clean sound to fatten the tone up. If I could buy a DR. Z or something low wattage with a 15 inch speaker for double this price there would be no questions. But this looks like a great amp for a very low price.
Best of all I'll have a EL-84 amp and a 6V6 amp! Sounds like a nice change to me.
