Can I change my name to Noah???
Prayers go out to all of you in the way of the Hurricane-Sandy....
It's looking to be a prolonged wind & rain event in these parts as the projected path at this point is right up the Genesee valley.
35+ mph winds for 3 days plus 6+ inches of rain. Rain not an issue for me unless it washes out my driveway which is on a slope.
The hurricanes that came through last year took off part of my barn roof - I patched that up this spring but I'm sure Sandy will have her way with it. That and if the power goes out it could be days to get it back on as the utilities crew will be overwhelmed because this storm is so large.
Three weeks to go until Joe & Co. roll into Rochester. I hope the power is back on by then or it will be a cold acoustic only show!
Well she passed through here night before last. She were ugly; couldn't believe how far away he was to still be SO nasty. Even the surfers (save a pitiful few) were dug in, shaking their heads. Wind & rain. WIND & RAIN! Power flickering...dogs a little nuts.
So yesterday the Divine One cleans up the yard whilst I gnash my teeth. Bandages, compression stocking and strict instructions. Do nothing. Nevertheless...
I am exercising all my power ('bout a thimbleful) and influence with the universal power to pray mercy for all family (of man) in Sandy's path. Dancing on one leg and chanting an old Rascals tune.

Prayers to all of you effected....350 miles wide ....I cant remember a storm going that far north with such intensity.....please let us know how yall are doing, sending you the best vibes I can do from Cali land
Shred
Sending love and best wishes across the miles to all in Sandy's path. I hope it does not become the monster the meteorologists are predicting. Take care everyone. xo
Prayers to ALL , BE SAFE

Jane..Get your butt home!! It's early, but the intensity is ramping. Lowest barometric pressure recorded in a long time. So happy the power is still on and I've had my morning espresso. My roomie just went on the roof to clear the spouts, again, but don't think that will happen again. Really glad we're not getting the snow they are getting in western Md. The worse will come this evening into tomorrow. We've done all we can to prepare. The chain saw is ready, but I hope it won't be needed. Stay safe everybody, this too shall pass Cathy
Well...did all I could do with parents and my house, and business....with its flat roofs (they leak, even when new ).)
Now it's down to an iPod full of Joe in one hand...a bottle full of Jack in the other (for a real emergency).
Already looking forward to new forum posts when back online.
Best to all in its path.
Winds are getting stronger and I keep thinking of more things I want to do before we possibly lose electricity. Have a well so no power, no water. Filled up the bathtub for nondrinking water and other containers for drinking water. Did laundry and now trying to get a loaf of fresh bread made. Huge gusts are blowing through, large old trees in the back are bending, silly chickens are under their coop instead of inside. I guess they feel safer there. My husband wishes we were out at our place in Western Md to experience the blizzard. I am glad we're not. Hope everyone stays safe, warm, and dry.

Thanks for the laugh. (on your second line) I just looked at my watch thinking, is it too early to have a glass of wine???
I am trying to stay calm...as long as everyone is safe, that's what is important. I wish we were all together, 2 of my 3 kids are at college, one just got back from filming a documentary in Ghana. His off campus housing causes me concern, his bedroom is in the attic, its a fire trap and just an old house, with old trees...the landlord has no conscience!! The local bars are having "Sandy"discounts luring the students, especially appealing to those in walking distance... I'm not sure what's safer...the bar or his house!!
A few years back, we picked up a little fixer-upper on a barrier island which is a couple of miles from Atlantic City. We dumped money and alot of blood, sweat and tears into that house...we did all the work except put the new roof on. Being that the bay and ocean met at high tide this morning and the worse case scenario is unfolding for Absecon Island...yeah I should open that bottle now.
Stay SAFE everyone!

I seriously doubt that this beautifully photoshopped image was taken anytime in the last few days. If you want to see what New York looks like at the moment check out the weatherchannel.com.

I don't think that's a picture of Sandy. Looks more like a strong thunderstorm or tornado, maybe from earlier this year when areas of NYC were hit. Sandy is much, much larger, the waves would be much, much higher and there is no way a boat that size would be out in the bay.
I've been thinking of my US friends over the last couple of days and hoping you are all safe. Glad to hear you're not in the direct path of that naughty Sandy, Sandy.
Just one night of the UK hurricane of 1987 was bad enough for me, so God only knows what a two day version is like. Keep your head down everyone and we are all praying for you.
Phil
Best of luck to everyone in Sandy's path (the storm, that is). We're hunkered down in Central PA with our cats while the wind and rain blows outside. Just had a hiccup that re-set the cable box, but we're back online now. Sounds like the storm is picking up speed, so maybe it won't hang around for a couple of days like they'd been warning. That would be good news for us.
So far we've picked up a couple of inches in the rain gauge. Our biggest concern is losing power, and the storm's only just reaching the coast, so we have a long night ahead of us, but we're counting our blessings we're not already sitting in the darkness as the house gets colder and colder.
Courage, everyone!
Ok, after doing more research - the pic i posted IS a fake - sorry, i was told a lie. I will delete it.
