Topic: Frankenstorm aka Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy has me extremely worried. We've been flooded twice in 5 years by storms or hurricanes. The weather experts said those were "once in 100 years" occurrences. Now were due to be hit with yet another "once in 100 years" storm. "Frankenstorm" they're calling it. I don't think this area (or my wife & I) can recover from another flood. Even still we'll have all the pumps ready to run just in case. We won't give up without a fight, that's for sure!!!

Right now we're doing a whole lotta preperations and a whole lotta prayin'!! And I pray everyone else that's in the path of this makes out ok too!!! Stock up folks!

Re: Frankenstorm aka Hurricane Sandy

Gee, they finally make it to the "S" in hurricanes and it just happens to be named after me and one of my great friends.

Spider - I know you are off fb, so wouldn't see what i wrote yesterday - all you folks in Vermont and eastern NY haven't finished cleaning up after last years mess - this is the last thing you guys need.  With the current storm track predicting it will hit Delaware bay I am extremely worried about my beloved Assateague - it is such a fragile barrier island (thanks a lot Ocean City sand catcher) and I really want it to be there next year (had to miss our trip there this year) - it is my magical location that cures all my ills.  Also Cathy and Jane - watch those trees.  I am far enough inland in Massachusetts that we are basically just expecting a nasty Nor'easter.

Be safe all my friends -

Sandy

Sorry Sandy, but you best beware of your namesake and trees in your vicinity, too.  The winds may be the powerhouse more than anything for you!  You be safe too!  Hope your power grid is good enough, too!!

We have a pretty good size generator that we use for camping.  Last year we had it running for a week after hurricane Irene knocked out power in our area for a week - ran 4 refrigerators (camper, neighbors, ours and my tenants) one tv (cable worked fine), and a few lights.    We will be ready for whatever.  Fortunately no rivers/streams near us.  Hatches are battened down!

Re: Frankenstorm aka Hurricane Sandy

I hate going through hurricanes, even cat 1 can be bad. Been through 5 or 6 of them and you just don't know what to expect. This will affect the Georgia-Florida football game in Jacksonville tomorrow, expecting rain bands and gusts to 35 mph. Can't wait to tune it in @ 2:30 CDT. You guys and girls up north take all precautions, we are crossing our fingers it won't be all that bad for you.

As corn through a goose, so are the days of our lives

Stay safe all.

Re: Frankenstorm aka Hurricane Sandy

Sandy, Sandy GO AWAY and DON"T come back another day!!

Bracing and not looking forward to it...one of the earlier forecasts had it real close to Cape May, NJ which would not be good for too many I know...I'm almost trying not to check in too much to the weather channel, it unnerves me!!

Stay safe everyone! smile

Cathy just finished moving movable stuff into the garage and cleaning out the gutters - and buying bags of ice, just in case.

Fingers tightly crossed for all of you in the path of this monster, stay safe!

Being 5 miles from the Delaware Bay (on the Jersey side) and Weather Channel saying 80 mph winds...guess I may get to see home base Utica after all...as we blow on by.

Seriously, good luck to everyone in Sandy's path...(esp fellow So NJ'er Angela smile).  (Just gettin over Irene here...some rural roads still closed from that one.)

Of course ICE is what Cathy will buy first for her survival kit! wink

I didn't think the east coast would get another hurricane like this after last year (when I was up all night scared while Ben slept through the whole storm like a baby......). So much for all the "once in 100 years" talk.
Stay safe everyone!

Re: Frankenstorm aka Hurricane Sandy

If your a pet owner FYI

Last year when the "state" went house to house ordering mandatory evacuations, they told pet owners to bring their pets with them. When the evacuee's arrived at the shelters, those people were immediately separated from their animals and the pets were crated and shipped off to animal shelters.

I don't know how you are about your pets, but my dogs are our children. We will not be separated from them. No matter the circumstance! We will stay at home with my family even if it floats away!!!!!

Good luck everyone. My prayers are with you.

STAY SAFE!!!

It's not looking good I'm afraid. I have been through hurricanes too so my heart and thoughts go out to you all. Stay safe above all.
