Topic: Philip Sayce - Steamroller (new album)

Philip Sayce's new album, Steamroller, is a mindblower of a steamroller! He's gonna blow up with this one. No American release date as of yet, but it's out in UK/Europe/Japan on the Provogue label - here's the title track:

I just had a great chat with PS, and he's a very, very cool guy.

Check it out, and support great music (as I know you already do!) smile

Re: Philip Sayce - Steamroller (new album)

It's a great album. I saw Philip in Glasgow in April. I met him briefly in the afternoon, purely by chance, and he's a really nice guy.

There's a thread on Philip already with Steamroller mentioned quite a bit

I like Phillip....  He is a nice bloke with a super talent...  Glad to see him turning to the dark side on his guitar choice!!  Eventually we all do....

Philip told me was very grateful to have received some good advice on his European record deal from you, Joe. He was very thankful for the help!

Seeing him play the SG Jr. did my heart well also. His tone is about two sizes larger now - very nice.

Snap, it was a great night back in April! Great album too, though imo not his best, it didn't sound as strong as Innerevolution. He is a beast of a guitar player live too, when I first heard/read about him thanks to this forum, someone described him as the Ying to Joe's Yang (or vice-versa!). A very accurate description, and I can't wait to see what he does next! Here's quite a bit of footage from the Glasgow gig (credit too the filmer, and apologies if I have posted this footage before, I feel as if I have but can't remember...):

I think it's a great album, the only track I don't like is 'The Bull'. I can see why some people might not be so keen on it compared to his earlier releases, it's definately a good bit 'heavier'.

Re: Philip Sayce - Steamroller (new album)

Like Joe said great guy and guitarplayer but he has one disadvantage: mostly plays far too loud! Interviewed him at Bospop last year for www.bluesmagazine.nl and took a great picture , all three together!,from Philip Sayce, Walter Trout and...Joe Bonamassa! Walter, and , Joe with BCC performed at Bospop too. Philip and Joe got a copy, next month I'll give one to Walter. First time I see him since Bospop.
Great guys and great guitarplayers.

Like the guy, love him on stage, wasn't overstruck with Steamroller. Has it's good points, but not enough of them and too short an album. Innerevolution still his high-water mark for me.

Re: Philip Sayce - Steamroller (new album)

Phil's a certified badass. I enjoyed the overwhelming majority of Steamroller, but it is a bit too short. Still, a lot of fun! I thought "Marigold" was a really cool sounding song.

I've heard him live once, (yes LOUD, but really great music) and recorded. Love his stuff and he is a very nice guy to boot. A very good player with a ton of soul waiting to get a breakout.
