To be honest it's in a bit stuck in a 1970s/1980s time zone. Joe's show is by far the best thing on it!

I agee Duncan, to me it is a rut, actually.  Sifting WITHIN that rut more to my taste would help also.  But we really could use a bit more present day, as well as a much wider span of decades, to include going even further back.  Yeah, there's some really early rocking records, which takes me to a point of specifically tilting to a slightly more "Americanized" vibe, and more real input from around the world, again, current and warehouse dusted off cleaned the mold off the old deals.  And thunk their thinker bank with a cornucopia and outright mess o' the blues!!!  Pretty Please? hmm. Joe's music AND his show are about as lucid a representation of what I just mentioned.

I completely agree, however I must say that the station is far better as it is than the resulting nothing at all if it went. I virtually listen to nothing else now in the UK or the US and revert to the ipod if not online. What was the Joni Mitchell track, "You don't know what you've got till it's gone"

Joe never ceases to amaze me. The closer with that Gospel, a very long one at that was a big surprise. The Beth Hart interview and music following was great.

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Got to agree, today's "2-fer" of Joe's show followed by the one with Beth was well worth making time to catch.  I liked the tune she wrote with Slash.  (And I'm not a major Slash fan.)

Had to laugh when Joe signed off while mentioning that next week's show would be coming from Hawaii, then laughed about how "rough" he's got it.  As he said, he's really having fun early on in the tour after taking the summer off.  I expect nothing short of being blown right out of my socks, when he gets to the Chicago Theatre, next May.

And I know Joe will deliver.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Great show tonight, as well as the Beth hart My Planet Rocks show. That Black Keys song is awesome, and it's always great hearing Clapton do some Freddie King, and the Jimmy Barnes song rocked!!

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Here's what Joe played on the show yesterday:

Electric Flag - Killing Floor
Jamey Johnson - Cover Your Eyes
Gov't Mule - John The Revelator
Steve Earle - Molly-O
Albert Collins - Too Many Dirty Dishes
ZZ Top - I Gotsta Get Paid
Al Kooper/Mike Bloomfield - Green Onions
Gary Moore - Long Grey Mare
Eric Clapton - Old Love
John Lee Hooker - I'm Bad Like Jesse James

I must say I didn't expect to hear Jamey Johnson on the show, but he's a great artist who should be played.

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

It was great hearing Freddie King, Robben Ford, & Gov't Mule. Shows like this are way better than the regular classic rock stations out there that just play the same stuff over and over again. I wish more shows were like Joe's.

I do like having the out of the ordinary variety that Joe's show brings.
I have been listening to deep tracks on satellite radio a lot lately and discovered gems I did not know about or had forgotten.  And sometimes catch Tom Petty's Buried Treasure on Monday am on my way to work.
