Excellent shout Pete.  I'll be picking up some of his music today.  His music does have a Ray LaMontagne feel to it which is a good thing in my book.  Nice of Joanne to help him out.

Re: Tristan Mackay

After listening to the album I believe Tristan's got more going for him than Ray L.  He won't be an opener for much longer.  This is one of the better shouts brought to the forum lately.

Nice video Pete.  Looking forward to seeing him in Friday on Glasgow!

Re: Tristan Mackay

After listening to the album a few times I've come to the conclusion that this guy's going to become a star.  I've said this before in describing artists with this level of talent as someone with a hat trick for success - great musician, songwriter and singer.

His guitar playing reminds me of Clapton and Knopfler which is a nice duo to be compared to.  Nothing flashy, but listening to his playing you'll find yourself mesmerized.

As in all great albums all the songs are your favorite and each has its own particular identity.  There's no covers here, they're all original compositions.  Early John Mayer comes to mind with the construction of these ditties only Tristan weaves way more blues than pop.  It'll be interesting to see his future evolution as I believe the guitar playing could be featured more.  Yeah, the kid knows his way around those frets.

Like Pete said his singing very much reminds one of Ray LaMontagne, James Morrison or Amos Lee.  Not a bad group to be compared to.

When 2012 closes shop I'm sure this album will be in my top three and Pete's right again about
the songs growing on you.

Re: Tristan Mackay

Enjoyed the vid quite a bit, Pete, thanks so much.  For a moment there I thought we were finally going to hear you singing in the round but alas, not to be. ;-)

Will surely have to check out his cd now;  appreciate your review Curby.

Re: Tristan Mackay

...Tristan did perform a cover and in hindsight i wish i captured it... BB's The Thrill is Gone ...it was his song of the night in my book and hope he puts a version on his next album ...some vid' of him performing such on a street in Leeds.

Re: Tristan Mackay

Caught him opening for JST on the penultimate date of her tour. Very "fresh" sound and engaging personality. Tristan did a couple of interesting covers, Old Love & Thrill Is Gone; very brave choices for someone solo on stage, apart from a stomp box and looper, but he carried them off.

Be interesting to see what he does with a band, but for now, worth catching if you like Marcus Bonfanti, or John Mayer while he still had "fire".
