Topic: A New Amps I am really digging

Hey Everybody,
I just wanted to get on here and say that I am really digging my new Category 5 "Joe B" signature superlead 100.  I have left my original prototype in Europe.  The new one is covered in Silver Jubile tolex and very cool.. The Category 5 saved me in Europe and has a Dumble style mid boost with a classic superlead design. Great!!   I am also very into my new Carol Ann "EL 34 style Dumble"  it has been in Eric Johnson, Lance keltner, and David Grissom's hands in Austin for the last month while I was in Europe.  The report is that it is a very special amp. Ive not gotten it yet, its on its way from Austin.. But I yield the floor to those guys...  Anyway up late and have a day off and wanted to share with all the fellow gear nuts like me.
Prices are reasonable  too  ..
Joe B

Re: A New Amps I am really digging

Enjoy your day off and your new "toy " .
Hope you're gonna enjoy it as much playing on it as well as you're talking about it already.

Re: A New Amps I am really digging

Yeah I noticed from the Sloe Gin clip that your amp setup has changed from what it was a couple of years ago. I noticed amp heads of Category 5, Van Weelden, Budda along with the good old silver jubilee marshalls.
Which one is your favourite? And which do you use for what (kind of) song or guitar?
When I'll join a band someday I might consider the amps you're using since I really like your sound. But till then I guess my 15 watt Vox amp will do. I wouldn't mind trying it in Paradiso though, hahah lol wink
Enjoy the new gear and I'm sure that you'll keep blowing us away with it cool

We have just one world, but we live in different ones.

Re: A New Amps I am really digging

Enjoy your new amps Joe!   It's always a treat getting some new gear- and finding some new tones!

Joe,

Welcome Back!!  Thanks for the kind words on the Category 5.  We've already had one order placed for one, and several others with lots of interest.  Will see you in Telluride and talk to you soon!

Re: A New Amps I am really digging

Carol-Ann is the Brand of amps Alan Phillips makes, custom stuff.  I think he's an Englishman, so maybe you already know him? EL34 refers to the tube used although brand names, prices, and quality differs among makers and biasing schemes (if you understand them) as does especially the associated electronic circuitry designs within the amps they are part of.  Dumble is the association Joe is making, opposed to say "Marshall" I think jim m may have somethings he could add?

I'd be interested to hear that amp- as I recall Dumbles are mostly (if not all) 6L6's... hmm...

Re: A New Amps I am really digging

Sorry gsj, I hope I don't sound patronizing...I really don't know / get the amp thing anyway...I am into the circuitry and might consider designing one one day excessively cheap to sell excessively expensive!   I would gather Carol-Ann might be a woman of some import to Alan...mumsie?!... snort, I mean sniff!

No, you don't sound patronising Rocket, it was good information. I love the 'make 'em cheap and sell 'em for big bucks' idea....let me know if you need a UK outlet smile

I know I really couldn't do it that way with a clear conscience....they'd have to be priced more according to actual expense than "designer" fee.  That crap is for fashion clothing in my book.
