We had the same experience but without an increase in volume - It was way too quiet !

Enjoyed the film. The sound wasnt brilliant, but until I get the DVD and play it at home, its difficult to know whether it was the production or the cinema's system.

You could easily have slotted todays JPJ and Robert into the band 40 years ago and they would have fitted right in.  Time has almost stood still for them (other than the wrinkles).   Jason was immense.  It was only Jimmy that wasnt quite at the same level.  That being said, his riff making was great and was more than good enough to carry the songs.

I think its a pretty good job that they will never tour.   If they had to do that every night, Pagey would be dead in a week !!

That must have been the best concert movie I've seen so far ... just insane!
Thank God the movie theater turned up the volume after the audience protested - nothing worse than seeing a concert like this on too low volume.
I can only start to imagine now how it must have been for you lucky ones who were there that night - I'm sure it was something you'll never forget.

THAT'S what music is supposed to sound like.

Definitely the cinema. Ours went from Quad, to stereo...to some points mono...and mix was all over the place. No huge bass from JPJ bass pedals in Kashmir (like there is in the trailer or how it was there) and no real in-your-face drums.
Wait till the cd and dvd...it will be far better! The master mix is superb.

Tx Dave - glad to know it wasnt just us - However the worrying thing is that your experience sounds identical to ours.

Good Times/Bad Times sounded completely mono.   It was a couple of tracks in before I could hear JPJ on the left channel and the drums were really low in the mix most of the time.

I echo the sentiment of many others.  The volume was so low at the beginning at my theater, that the guy in front of us said,  "The volume was louder for Finding Nemo!"  A number of us took appropriate action to get it cranked, but then realized just how crappy the sound system was (this is the Marcus in Menomonee Falls for those who want to register a formal complaint!).  Sound kept fading in and out and the side speakers buzzed and vibrated throughout.  Oh well, it was way cool to see them on the big screen anyway!
I have to politely disagree with reviews of 'excellent film work' though.  I thought the concert and performace were quite good, but the film itself was quite distracting with what I would refer to as 'anxious' film work.  The views jumped around at greater than one scene per second and most of the shots were dynamic (moving) as opposed to still.  That makes it hard to enjoy.  It was way too busy.  You get the impression that the film director(s) are not as well suited for a concert film as opposed to something like an action flic.
It is what it is and I'll still be owning my own bonus package dvd!

We had the same sound problems - not even close to being loud enough but it did get a bit louder after the third song.  I have ordered the Bluray and hope it arrives before Thanksgiving - I'm sure it will sound much better cranked on the home system.  Great movie and experience, as Eva says so wish I could have been there.  They got themselves thrown out of Boston back in the day so I never got my chance.  sad

Side story:  Back when the movie Woodstock first came out my Mom (!) and I went to see it in a Boston theater (that was a big deal back in the early seventies for us).  Long before imax, dolby stereo, etc.  I remember the theater had brought in all kinds of speakers just for this movie - it made for an awesome experience.  Too bad some of these places didn't do something like that last night - lol.

We're seeing it tonight.  I've been watching the trailers.  I can only imagine how cool it would have been to be there.  All I know is it better be loud. smile

I think BCC Live over Europe  was way worse in that respect.  I dont think there is a single shot longer than 2 seconds in the whole performance.  Too much MTV influence !!!

I thought it was wonderfully shot. Close-ups of the fretboard, keys, guys...amazing sweeping shots that made songs like Stairway all the more special. They got all the right shots of the smiles, the laughs and importantly...the chemistry.
It looked like the cameramen knew what they were doing...which is rare...
I hate the mtv style videos of today.

I will echo what hulldanfan said. The BCC dvd is awfully shot...unwatchable to me...I just listen to the cds...it's so busy, it makes me seasick. I was gutted when I got the bluray...watched it twice...can't do it again...what a waste.
Scorsese did well on Shine A Light...there should be more productions like that.

Saw the show and it rocked for me from beginning to end. Loved the close up on the band and how JPJ, RP, and JP let Jason shine.

The volume issue seems to be common and wonder if it wasn't the event company that sent out the digital feed who had the problem.

Can't wait for Christmas when Santa fills my stocking.

It was so great to see.Loved seeing Jason up there. it all just seemed sooo wonderful for all.
I liked even how the film would go to the picture on the big screen-jumbotron-whatever you call it. made it feel more like i was 'there' in a way and how the audience was experiencing it.

this might be a stupid question but we entered a couple minutes late but I am pretty sure did not miss any songs. this other woman came ina couple minutes later and asked what song she missed. We said I don't think any. then after she asked again and said maybe we missed Celebration Day cause she didn't catch it so it must have plyaed before she came in. we were just like i don't think you missed any songs, just part of the first one. Was there a song called celebration Day? and was it first?

oh and i did call ahead and asked for the manager, said i was concerned it wouldn't be loud enough . they said they monitor these things and would adjust. i said can you just please give it extra consideration and make sure its loud enough from the get go.... smile it was not real loud but certainly loud enough IMO


anyway just really goes to show me Led Zep really is / was all that and in a whole league of thier own

loved it!

The movie starts (as the concert did) with the Tampa concert news report on a small TV on the big screen. Goes for a few mins, then GTBT.

The Tampa piece is also a special feature with the remastered TSRTS DVD.

Zeppelin does have a song "Celebration Day". It is on their third album. It was done a number of times on their Page and Plant tours in '96. So happy I got to see them three times back then. The one at the Capitol Center in Landover, MD was the best. Too bad that venue doesn't exist anymore. Now there is just the MCI center in DC which has awful sound.

No worries Jane....We saw it Thursday with some friends in Columbia. Not impressed with the theater sound, but I liked the movie overall. Will wait for the bluray, I'm sure it will be more exciting on my home theater with (hopefully) killer audio.

Been enjoying the new Beth Hart and Don Fagen albums. His best since 'Nightfly', and there are at least 3 tracks on the new CD that are absolutely brilliant. Beth Hart's new CD is excellent as usual. Her star is rising rapidly.....
