Topic: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

For those who got the CD from iTunes already, what are your fav songs from the new record?

Mine are:

Seagull
Ball Peen Hammer
Sloe Gin
Jelly Roll
One of These Days

Also- does anyone else think Black Night sounds a bit like So Many Roads (in a good way) ?

Ball Peen Hammer
Black Night

Those would probably be my favorites. Those are the ones that get stuck in my head the most.

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

I've got to give nods for those that like their blues to rock..The best is that you get to hear Joe overdub Joe..2 Joe's!!! Another Kind of Love, Black Night, Sloe Gin, and One of These Days ( Joe now owns that song!). I also get a kick from Jelly Roll...I like it all, these are just the ones that appeal to the guitar wh*re in me....Cathy

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

Ball Peen Hammer, Another Kind of Love, Dirt in My Pocket, Richmond, India. I see India at the end of a few people's lists. I actually like that song better than 6 other ones on the CD.

Jane, I used to live in Maryland... in a small town called Forest Hill, near Bel Air- and I used to work in Towson.  My job brought me to Boston 11 years ago.. anyway, I always enjoy your posts and it's always nice to read from a Bonamassaholic from my old stomping grounds... have to say that so far Sloe Gin is my favorite also... go Ravens, go Orioles..

One thing about Sloe Gin, the solo after the sirens reminds me in ways of how parts of the Pain and Sorrow live solo sounds like or does to me. Its like the guitar is talking, not like talkbox thing or whatever but when Joe does the flurry like thing its like my subconcious wakes up and is debating with conciousness/reality - hard to explain and sorta personal but anyway i liked making that connection to my favorite song P+S.

also someone said something about the end of One of these Days being Layla like, I get that but also have a Sweet Melissa feeling there for me.

anyway going to be away from computer for a weekish so when I'm back I'll have lot more to say.

so far I guess my order of favorite would be
Sloe Gin
Dirt in My Pocket
One of These Days
Ball Peen Hammer
Another Kind of Love
Richmond/Seagull tie
Black Night
Jelly Roll
Around the Bend
India

theres alot that i am feeling about Richmond, that song really opens up alot in me. its not up in the top of the list but theres not much difference in the level of favorite there and thats not a heavy music one but a very heavy feeling one for me. I never had a personal connection to Richmond(the city) that was good so i had to put that out of my head and when I did i realize what an amazing song this is lyrically like what Rocket was saying abotu around the bend - that one is too but richmond more for me. more on that later date - love that song - didn't at first listen
i've tried replacing Richmond with a town i connect more to because i am really a home town sort of person - always lived within a 10-15 mile radius. i am using Towson - i never lived there but first where i saw Joe and its fits better than Cockeysville, White Hall, or Sparks (don't try to find me,lol I am unlisted but others with our name aren't,lol)

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

Poor, wayward India...at the bottom of everyone's list!
I've only heard a few songs as yet...waiting for the cd's to come next week. I'll reserve any comments until I've heard it all a few dozen times, but what I've heard so far, I like.

It reminds me of Ravi Shankar a little. Loved his performance at Monterey Pop. So did Hendrix. smile

Hey Joe,
I am with you on this one, I think it is way cool & beautiful in sound......Rick must be in bliss over this one.  It is what I would call a "raga."  Ragas are held to evoke particular "moods" and metaphorically "colour" the experience of the listener and are often performed to correspond and resonate with a season or time of day.  Beautiful to hear after meditation.
I just returned from a trip to Sullivan & Rolla, Missouri.  Visiting with my great pal Rhonda (Photogal) and my son was looking at the engineering school in Rolla.  It looks as if he will be attending there next fall.  This is one of those stories that you, Joe, get initial credit for.  I still remember way back when you posted a post on friendships that are formed on this forum.  Well, because of you, Rhonda & I met up, because of Rhonda working at UMR my son found the college of his dreams.......what "karma" to have all this happen......
And on a 5-6 hour car ride to & fro I have listened to all of the new songs many, many, many times and I must say that they all stand-up by themselves.  What a treat to have so many different "flavors" of music to choose from.  Joe Bonamassa, you are brilliant  smile

Joe,
I got a chance to hear a few more tracks on Amazon, and one of them was India. Nice song, I like it. I still haven't heard everything off the album, so I'm not sure where I'd rank it compared to the rest of the songs. Being at the bottom of people's lists doesn't make it a bad song, it just means that you must have put up an awesome track list

This is the thing, Bill S.  All the songs are of such high quality that I just can't quite get my arms around the idea of doing a ranking yet.  There are some I play more than others and dig a bit more but there isn't anything that is filler in my mind.  Side A (tracks 1-5) plus 6, and 8 are ones I play the most, but I also dig #9, & 10, and 7 and 11 are good too.  I just love this disc!
