Topic: Blues Fans in Iowa.....Help

I wasn't sure where to post this, so hopefully this area is as good as any since it doesn't pertain to Joe directly.  I am a huge Joe B fan (obviously) as well as a huge blues fan in general.  I will be traveling to Cedar Rapids the week of November 12th for work.  I live in Denver, Colorado and as such am not familiar at all with the Blues scene in Iowa.  I would love to check out a blues show or shows while I am out there that week.  I have been doing some general web searches but not coming up with much.  I have also reached out to the Central Iowa Blues Society for any suggestions they have.  I thought I would also throw it up here to see if possibly any of you Blues fans from Iowa might have some suggestions for that week.  I am open to pretty much anything Blues.  No particular style.  I am equally open to checking out local, regional, or national bands.  Even a good local blues jam would be fine.  Again, I will be in Cedar Rapids but am willing to make a reasonable drive to catch a show in a different city.  Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me.

Re: Blues Fans in Iowa.....Help

I did a search on Pollstar and came up with a couple options if they're not too late in the week:

Sonny Landreth in Iowa City at the Englert Theatre on Friday, November 16 - we saw Joe there in 2010, nice little theatre.

BB King at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids on Sunday, November 18

I found this via the Blues Foundation's link to this calendar for the Central Iowa Blues Society. Good luck on your adventure. Cathy

Lee's suggestion of Sonny Landreth is a good one. I'm seeing him tomorrow night and will give a review in Other Artists after. The pre show blurb says this is probably going to be mostly instrumental in support of his latest release, Elemental Journey. Have fun in Iowa!

Re: Blues Fans in Iowa.....Help

Hi everyone.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.  I have seen Sonny Landreth before and would love to see him again.  Unfortunately my flight home is at 6:00 Friday night so that won't work.  I also checked out all the suggestions Gary provided (Thanks very much for those) and unfortunately none of them are playing during the week I am there.  However; checking out their list of dates did provide me some other venues to check out for possible shows, etc.  So, again, thanks to everyone for the great suggestions.  I really appreciate the efforts to help me out.  I am still on the hunt if any of you hear of anything else come up.

Re: Blues Fans in Iowa.....Help

I have checked my favorite Iowa musician calendars and couldn't find anything on their schedules...you are right in between their dates.  For bigger name acts the only thing I could find was Chicago playing at Stephens Auditorium in Ames, IA.  I guess I would ask the locals once you are there, might be some good local bands.  I think you are relatively close to Cedar Falls, Waterloo, somewhat further Iowa City, Des Moines...couldn't find much else in the larger cities for that week.....2 of my favorite Iowa bands you are a week late for and a week early for.. however I did come across an interesting looking band coming to the House of Bricks in Des Moines..

Tuesday November 13th......  http://www.redelvises.com/schedule.htm  .........who knew such a group existed....anyone ever heard of or seen?   smile
