Topic: Reeves vs orange

Hey all. The hunt for the perfect amp continues. Any have any experience with either? I like the reeves custom 30. I've read it's like a cross between a hiwatt and a jtm45. The orange I (think) I like is the OR50. I don't have any way of testing either of these amps so I figured I'd start here

Thanks,
Logan

You could try going to the amp forum here and viewing or posting your technical questions.   These guys are all pro/semi pro players and really know what they are talking about (and are very friendly, even to idiots like me)

Re: Reeves vs orange

Can't speak to Orange Amps, but have a Reeves 10HG and love it... It's a great practice/studio amp with great Brit tone.  She's different than the Custom 30 certainly but no nonsense solid construction, great tone, and light weight. IMO eats the Class 5 for lunch. I tell you I'd love to give a Custom 30 a run, but hell I'd love to try an Orange for that matter.

Re: Reeves vs orange

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered a Reeves. I dig the tone of the KT66's. Hopefully it's a rockin' amp!

Re: Reeves vs orange

I have a Reeves Custom 50 with power scale and it's a killer amp. Very clean and play very load without breaking. Sounds nice on lower volume as well and can of course be dialed in to give some good crunch. A few pedals according to your preferences in front and you're rcoking! I have a serial fx loop and it works very well. Highly recommended!

There's some reviews on youtube which might give you some idea how it sound. The highly compressed audio on youtube is not that suitable for giving a true impression though....

Re: Reeves vs orange

Thanks Andre-

I ordered the Custom 30 MkII... should have it next week, and I can't wait! I don't know if I will be using the amp for dirt or use pedals... still experimenting to see what works best for me.
