Topic: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Noticed Liz mentioned bball just around the bend and thought to start an official thread for this season.

There's a lot to be said about who will be the teams to look out for, but in the end look for my Hoosiers to be in the mix along with Louisville and a rebuilt Kentucky.  Kinda nice that all three rivals are back in the thick of things.  Of course UK, under Calipari, has enjoyed a success not seen since the old UCLA days.  Their team this year will certainly be good, but not as deep or talented as those last three teams.  I think last years Wildcats were the best I've ever seen and find it incredible Indiana beat them and played them close in the tournament.  IU has a real chance to win it all this year, but look for Kentucky to get #9 next year.  There'll be some holdovers from this year's team to go along with a "fab five" recruiting class for next year.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Nice time to start. Our SDSU Aztecs, after last season's fine result, have already had the season sold out for the last month. Returning veterans and a great recruiting season as well as some very good transfers look promising for another run at post season play.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

thanks for the prompt, just printed out Bama's schedule and discovered we start with a bang in NY for the 2K Sports Classic. We get Oregon State first game and if we win we get Purdue or Villanova roll in the final. We start the SEC schedule at Mizzou, no picnic there. Due to expansion I guess, we get Kentucky only once and that is at Tuscaloosa on Jan 22. I am so hyped over our rookie Devonta Pollard, hoping he gets some decent playing time. Should be an exciting year, can't wait for it to start.

Yes Rick your Aztecs will be a top west coast team  and the UCLA game will be a big one.  I think we play the Bruins too.  Our big game early will be against North Carolina at home.  We have Cody Zeller back and every other starter from last year.  We also have a top five recruiting class that will give the team a lot of depth.  Getting excited.

We seem to have some contenders on the forum. The sellout here of the season tickets is the first in school history and a testimony to Coach Fisher's hard work. The opening game against the Bruins will set the table for a good look at what we have, and may expect as the season progresses. The USA Today poll has the Aztecs making the elite 8! A bit excited here too, but I will take that with a large grain of salt. hmm Good luck to all.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Let the fun begin! Should be another great season! Fans here are ready, I don't know about Midnight Madness at other schools but here they camp out across the street from the ticket office to get another spot in line  at the ticket office once they can cross the street to pitch tents for days to get the free tickets to Big Blue Madness! While they are there the players come & hang out with them play corn hole, sign autographs and Coach Cal has food delivered and stops by to hang out too cool They give away 23,000 tickets and there won't be an empty seat in the house. ESPNU will be airing Midnight Madness, Curby they are starting live coverage at IU.

Noel is being investigated, not real clear on the details. I know it's not academic, something about still being amateur? All indications are he will be participating in Big Blue Madness. But dominating the news more are the new recruits, twins from Texas and another kid, last name Young announced tonight.

James Young  is a top ten kid that everyone thought was a lock for Mich. St.  Kentucky will also get Andrew Wiggens and Julius Randle.  Here's the rankings for this potential class:

2013 Julius Randle #1 - 6'9" 240 F
2014 moved up to "13 Andrew Wiggens #1 - 6'7" 190 F
2013 Aaron Harrison #3 - 6'5" 210 G
2013 Andrew Harrison #4 - 6'5" 205 G
2013 James Young #8 - 6'6" 200 G

If all these guys come onboard they will trump Michigan's fab five class back in the nineties.  Even more scarier is how many holdovers from this year's team will there be?  I see at least two of their studs hanging around, but the key would be Noel's status.  He has been investigated for academic compliance, but I think he's been ruled ok.  The other investigation is more serious and involves unofficial trips to Kentucky and association with some rather seedy characters in his inner circle.  If he's ruled ineligible to play this year, but could play with that class the following year then UK would have the greatest college team ever.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

I cant wait to see what Coach Cal brings to the table this year - its gonna be exciting for sure!!! Normally im ready for bball right now, but my WV Mountaineers are on a run in football right now, so thats keeping me interested!!!

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

The Aztecs picked up a pair of gooduns from Sac town's Sheldon High for 2013. Kids that have been playing together for ages in preps and were highly recruited- a 6-5 wing and 6-3 guard. The chances of them both going to the same  school out of HS were vanishingly small. Go figure.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

If you're a college basketball fan than look no further than the small area that separates Indiana, Louisville and Kentucky, the number 1, 2 and 3 ranked basketball teams in America.  I thought this might be a "down" year for UK, but after watching their Blue/White scrimmage the other night I don't see many teams beating them this year or any year.  Not positive, but I think Calipari will end up getting 7 of the top 10 players for the 2013 class and coupled with whoever stays from this year's team then look for an unbeaten National Champion in '14.
I'm very excited for my Hoosiers as they're twelve players deep and very talented.  Our Coach reminds me very much of a younger Rick Pitino and wonder if we'll press more this year to wear down teams.

11 days until the SDSU Aztecs kick it off against the Syracuse Orangemen on the deck of the USS Midway (maritime museum now). I hope Rocket gets a chance to attend that. He rarely gets to see his team. Coach Fisher has had the team practicing against the zone that he expects. This might be a very entertaining game.  NCAA BB coming on strong! big_smile

HA!  So the sponsorships HAVE come through and it won't be canx???!!!  IF a go, HA!  Zero chance I can go as I hear there's only 4,000 seats.  Prices $150- or $500, and then resale above ridiculous, I would wager!  I have NEVER seen the Orange off TV!  One game I was ticketed for at the Carrier Dome, Dad & Mom had to go w/o as I was on call at the hospital...Too many richest artists, crime bosses, and international corporate or smuggler thugs loaded with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to even think I'll be on board without stowing away somehow.  Hey..........

Anyway, Syracuse in camouflage uniforms???!!! WTF! yikes Hey, wait, we invented camouflage! big_smile

Shocking truth: Syracuse should LOSE this game.  It is hard for some of you to believe, but it is a setup...

Rick,

I read that Shabazz is out two to four weeks.  Will that affect the game with the Aztecs?

No word on that. There was a run-up feature interview with Coach Fisher this morning in the paper. Aztec madness is setting in with great expectations this year. The Orange and then UCLA in the Wooden Classic is a heck of a start! Rocket is right about the tickets to the Battle of Midway. It is a benefit and will be packed with high rollers and glitterati for sure.

Baseball is through and after the Bowl games & The Super Bowl wrap up I'll be in hibernation. Wake me when the NCAA Tourney gets here in March.

Might want to pay attention to your Buckeyes.  Highly ranked and maybe better without Sully.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

saw the TV ad last night, I'm going to get that opener on Fri vs the Cuse. Time for revenge Rick, only one meeting previously  in '07 in the NIT. Take em to the woodshed!

It may be moved to an indoor arena as the forecast is for rain and SNOW yikes in the back country mountains. State is looking very strong this year, they've had two tuneup exhibitions that were romps. We;ll see if they are for real. More or less the same lineup with a bunch of big men playing power forward. No true big center. Franklin played and practiced with pros all off season honing his game with expectations of a high NBA draft in the future. He looks to be an NCAA first teamer. The Aztecs are the highest ranked team outside of the BCS auto teams (but rankings mean nothing on the paint). We're excited this year! smile
