Topic: Taking Delivery Of A New Guitar

My dad has decided to seize the oppotunity before they sell out and buy one of the new Robot Les Paul Studio limited guitars. Looking at the demonstration video and the specs, it seems very much a guitar for the experimentalist type, but also a workhorse guitar for those who play through a hundred tunings in one gig.

I would like to hear your opinion, anyone who ahs seen/tried this guitar, especially those of you in the USA who got theirs first.

It's really too new. I don't think anyone here on the boards has one yet.

I can only say what I've heard. I can say Gibson put a lot of research and development in to make sure the guitar is a quality one. Even though I believe that this is the future of guitar electronics, vintage "purists" and Luddites do not like all the new features on this guitar. I'm not sure how well they are selling in the U.S.

From the demonstrations I've seen, it seems like a nice piece that allows you to play in tune well. It will be a good day when people see through the gimmicks of technology and realize it is a musical instrument, just like other guitars.

If you get it, post a YouTube vid. We'd like to get your impressions on it!

I will certainly. First though we've got to wait until it's delivered to the shop in a couple of days, and then we go and collect it.

It's funny because all the previous robot guitars, except the Dusk Tiger, have sold out completely.

I don't own one myself, but I have heard reports from owners of earlier models expressing their frustration at Gibson's poor after sales support.  A few of them have said the tuner motors tend to break down, and Gibson no longer manufactures, or supplies replacement ones for the earlier generation guitars, so they all essentially turn into non robot guitars over time.

Gibson just does not seem to know how to support the high technology required in these guitars.  At least they didn't in past years.  Let's hope that they have learned a few lessons and are better equipped to support this newer generation range.
