Topic: Gig tonight, gotta amp question.

So my band is being forced into a gig tonight last minute (basically miscommunication between a bar and our drummer who thought we didn't sign up for the 5th) So we are basically treating tonight as a paid practice since its Friday and football, and nobody that we know are really coming out tonight to hear us play.  I thought it would be a wonderful time to screw around with some things.  Basically I run a Blues Jr amp mic'd.  I want to keep this amp slightly clean and A/B/Y an even smaller amp of mine which gives me a wonderful crunch tone the Vox TV4.  I want to run the vox wide open, and the Fender fairly clean.  Can anybody see a reason why this is a bad idea?  Both will be mic'd so I not too worried about being loud enough.

Re: Gig tonight, gotta amp question.

More amps is never a bad idea in my book. I don't see a problem with that setup? Some people use one amp exclusively for clean and another for dirt only. I thought about trying that out myself already instead of going stereo.

Re: Gig tonight, gotta amp question.

It turned out my Fender had some micro feedback going on that was unexplained....(needs tubes I think) so I went with the Vox by itself.  Not a bad amp at all but if I could do it over again I would have tried harder to tap the tubes to see if that feedback would stop.  Lets put it like this.  The Vox TV4 was wide open all night and it did the best it could do but any time your drummer is over powering your guitar amp you need to have more then 4 watts available to fight back even with a mic.  You can't always count on the sound man to turn you up.
