Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

this weeks sports illus. had molina winning the mvp in the nl....no way, buster posey has carried the giants since the second half, and posey can throw any day with molina....besides,  pitchers are more resonsible for stolen bags than catchers, lincecum is one of the worst ever at holding runners, yes i know he doesnt throw to posey....just my opinion.....posey has a point over cutch for the batting title as we enter today

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

I'm not worried about the division title, I feel pretty confident that we'll hold off the Braves. I'm less confident about holding off the Reds for the top percentage though, which leads me to my next question for the experts.

I read a line of reasoning somewhere (without really understanding it) that suggested it might be better not to come second overall and not have home advantage for everything - something to do with travel maybe? Anyway, it made no sense to me that you wouldn't want to be top dog percentage wise, if you had the chance. Everything the Nats are doing now is 'the first time since 1933', or earlier. big_smile

Harper meanwhile, has hit three homers and a triple in the last week, while Gio grabbed win #21. Despite that rare feat, I think Dickey should get the Cy Young, for lots of reasons.

As things stand now, the Braves and Cards meet for this one game playoff, right?

edit - I think that the only way we'll see Strasburg on the field is if he is used as a pinch hitter! He will not pitch again.

Geez, am I the only one here still watching baseball? Y'all have to see what happened in the Nats game last night, the commentator said he'd never seen anything like it in 50 years of watching the sport. big_smile

Bill, sorry to see your Sox have blown it at the death.

Tres, down to the wire today for the division. Our game at the Cards is the MLB free game of the day, so I'll be at the pc watching a perfect quality stream and hoping it doesn't go to extra innings so I can move straight over to the Skins game.

A question for those who know - what if two teams finish tied on the same percentage for the best record, as could easily happen between the Nats and Reds - what then determines who gets the advantage of the best record?

I'm not 100% sure, but ties at the end of regular season play have been decided by head to head record. If it is a tie in all stats, it goes to a one game do or die playoff.

Yeah, the White Sox collapse seemed to start as soon as the Chicago newspapers started showing that $&#*! magic number. Oh well, good luck to everyone else with teams still in the hunt.
My involvement now will be watching to see if the Cubs can sweep Houston and avoid 100 losses this year.

Since 1981, this team lost the NLCS to the Dodger$ as their only playoff appearance as the Montreal Expos, now known as the Washington Nationals. G Dawg, these ain't the Senators. Good Luck!!!!

BTW, the Oakland A's just got into the Playoffs by beating the former Washington Senators aka Texas Rangers.

Congrats to all making it to the playoffs. I have my eye on the Rangers...how many times have they gotten so close and it will be interesting to see what the Orioles do.

Congrats to tha Nats, I knew we couldn't catch them but it was fun trying! Braves had a much better September than last years collapse. On to the one really stupid playoff game with the red birds.

Pedant. Just because it was so late and I was too lazy to write "the first pennant for a Washington based team since 1933". In other words, the only people in D.C. who might ever have cheered for a D.C. division title before are now probably so old that they never noticed last night. big_smile

Thanks for the thoughts all.....but to be honest, the Nats are in a bit of a form slump at the wrong time, so winning the two remaining games to try and pip the Reds is still going to be hard work.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

So my Cardinals are down to magic number 1.... I hate to cheer for LA Dodgers to lose, but would seal the deal for the St. Louis Cardinals. I think it is going to be a heck of a Post Season regardless... should be a lot of fun to watch everything unfold! Cheers, Jason

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

It's OK Jason, almost everyone that posts on this topic wants LA to lose often. I am the Braves fan, see ya real soon.

The A's are messin' with Texas again tonight 3-1 botm 7. A's win they're tied with Tejas for the Div., even if they lose tonight and win tomorrow they'd have to play off the tie.
