Greetings, JB fans! I am Brad C, a member of the Modern Guitars news staff. My boss, Tom Watson, suggested I stop by and let you know about two articles we recently published regarding Joe Bonamassa and the upcoming album, Sloe Gin. They're both relatively short, but interesting interview pieces.

Thanks Brad for the links to these interviews.  I am especially excited to read that Kevin Shirley and Joe are planning to put together a live album toward the end of the year.  I am very excited about the "Sloe Gin" release, but there's nothing better than hearing Joe playing a live performance.

We're hoping it turns into a live DVD project. Kevin Shirley's a real master at Dolby 5.1

Thanks Brad for posting the links to the interviews.  It is really interesting to hear Joe speak about entire album concept and how it developed.  To hear Joe focusing his thoughts on each of song and the reasoning behind it is very insightful and will add meaning when listening to "Sloe Gin".  A new live DVD sounds very exciting!  Would love to be in the audience for that show!

Oh, I hope so too.  The inveriew with Joe reveals a new level of maturity in terms of the way he is thinking about his music.  I think a new DVD at this point would be perfect.

Hey Brad...Thanks for sharing the interviews with Joe and Kevin...Very thoughtful and intertesting...I'm more and more amazed each day about Joe's knowledge of music and how he searches and searches until he finds the write song, artist or new idea that matches his vision of what he want to become as a person and as a musician...Can't wait for the release of Sloe Gin...Too bad the live recording will follow his show at the Fraze Pavillion in Kettering, OH...Cheryl Crow just kicked butt with the Live Version that she recorded there last year...

A Live DVD would be a great Xmas present! It would also be awesome to have Bogie, Rick and Carmine in a live DVD also! Can't wait! You Tube is great for a quick fix, but nothing compared to cranking it up in stereo.

You beat me to the punch. I was just coming on to post a link to Kevin's interview.
Great piece, very informative on some of the process. I was surprised to hear that "So many roads" was not originally intended to be on the "You & Me" album. One of my favorites and I'm glad it was added in.

The boss asked (told) me to come back again to make something clear - my comment about a live DVD is only our (Modern Guitars) hope, and is not based on anything Kevin Shirley said. He only said they're thinking about a live "album". If you've heard any of Kevin's DVD projects I think you'll agree he really is a master at mixing 5.1, so a Joe Bonamassa live DVD produced and mixed by Kevin would be killer, but it's only our hope that such a project becomes a reality. We sure don't want to start a rumor that such a project is actually in the works. Thanks.

whoo, Anton Fig is on drums for the new album?  I wonder why his current drummer didnt play?  Well Anton is probably better but still.  I guess this sheds light on Joes (long ago) new band. 

Talk about heavy hitters on drums.  Bonham and Fig.  WOW.  Now I cant wait, Ive always liked Antons drumming

This is why Joe is great.  I really appreciate the fact he rerecorded "Around The Bend".  I respect that.  So one song got cut because he felt like he didnt do a good job on the original.  Thats respect to his fans

Great interview!  I'm getting a little over excited over the possibility of a live DVD- still haven't gotten over ANDY Live or Rockpalast! 

haha and I love this quote from Joe: "I don't mind being on the blues chart. That's very good company. You know, it's a lot easier to be #1 on the blues chart than it is to be #1 on the pop chart. At least I'm #1 of something - king of the small hill."

And he has a great quote to match it!

" I hated the original version that I did. I felt like I had this really beautiful song that Will Jennings and I had put together and I had completely blown it. Some people might like it better than the new one, but I hated the original version that I recorded for Had to Cry Today. It's always been stuck in my head that I missed the boat on that song. When I listen to the original it sounds like half-assed blues-rock. We were kind of in this head-space of doing a worldly version, but nobody really knew what they were doing. The song really is an acoustic song, not electric. We just needed an acoustic guitar to build around the vocals, and that's what Kevin did."
