Re: The NFL - National Football League

Well, my picks sucked, but the Bolts rolled. big_smile Total domination in every phase of the game with sustained drives controlling the time of possession and putting it in at the red zone, which was their nemesis last year and against the Raiders last week. Rivers remarked he actually had to sit down in the 2nd period to take a breather between scores since the offense was on the field most of the time. I like it when they get tired out from scoring too much. lol
Atlanta up next and it looks like we will have our offense at full strength for the first time. smile

New Orleans at Carolina - Can't imagine Saints losing their first two either.
Houston at Jacksonville - No idea, on a coin toss.

Washington at St. Louis - RGIII to continue to shine! cool
Dallas at Seattle - Could be very close.
NY Jets at Pittsburgh - Jets meet a real defense.
Tennessee at San Diego - Tough call, home team on a coin toss.
Detroit at San Francisco - Last year this was a fun one, I'll go with Niners.
Denver at Atlanta - I'll go with PM till he loses.

Seven for me this weekend...to be fair, lots of pundits with more NFL smarts than the likes of us also got caught out. I think the biggest shocks (in order of shockingness) were NE, NO, DAL, BAL and WAS.

RG3 was great again, passing for one, and running for two TDs! The Redskin defense, one moment of stupidity by Josh Morgan, and some truly awful refereeing led to this entirely unnecessary defeat.

I watched two whole games, Ravens and Skins...the common thread was execrable refereeing. I suspect that some very unhappy owners who feel hardly done by may start leaning on the NFL to settle and get the 'proper' refs back pronto. These guys couldn't even agree where to spot the ball at times!

Well G Dawg, the best solution to the referee mess is hope yours and everybody else's teams just play better football and keep it out of these bumbling idiots hands. They're a handicap to everybody.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Well the Browns are 0-2, but on the upside, yesterday the offense put 27 points on the board on 3 TD's & 2FG's. Trent Richardson showed what he's capable of finding the end zone twice. Hopin' they can build on this for next weeks home game vs. the Bills.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

The refereeing seems about par for college refs. They haven't got the receiver penalties down yet, and some calls were blown for sure. One reception here yesterday was ruled incomplete that was a catch in the end zone. Thankfully the next play was the same with a better result. Overall I'd say they were ok for subs. No hideous mis calls I saw.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

The refs? I agree they have been pretty poor, but also think if you're a good team you overcome that.
I don't know if anyone saw the play on Thursday night when GB challenged that the Bears had too many men on the field, but the refs made the right non call and then UNDER REVIEW  it up by overturning a call that was (at best) inconclusive and (at worst) absolutely not too many men on the field.
I'm not spewing any sour grapes about a Bears loss, my point is that they are even missing calls when they have time to look at them multiple times in slow motion! That was horrendous.

George - it musta been that 750 ml bottle of Rodenbach Grand Cru! It lasted into the third quarter at which point the Bills stopped putting up points and the Chiefs began their comeback. I do have another 10 bottles so I may need to ration them for game days.
The league seems to be topsy turvy so far. Play great one week, suck the next; i.e. Cowboys, Jets, Bills. One week does not a season make. Remember the Bills started 5-1 last year and promptly nose dived after a few key injuries exposed their lack of depth.
About the officials - after last weeks crushing defeat to the Jets, our $100,000,000 man (Super Mario) complained that it was hard to get pressure on Sanchez & Tebow when he had hands in his face on every down.

Their work will forever live on in NFL history.  A very sad day indeed. I don't think I have to tell you what my favorite clip is of his was.  I can't imagine the Raiders without this.  It and Steve forever will live on in the Raider Nation.  Thank you Steve Sabol, you are the NFL.

The Poem that Steve Sabol penned:  "The Autumn Wind"

The Autumn wind is a pirate

Blustering in from sea

With a rollicking song he sweeps along

Swaggering boisterously.

His face is weather-beaten

He wears a hooded sash

With a silver hat about his head

And a bristling black mustache

He growls as he storms the country

A villain big and bold

And the trees all shake and quiver and quake

As he robs them of their gold.

The Autumn wind is a Raider

Pillaging just for fun

He'll knock you 'round and upside down

And laugh when he's conquered and won.

"Holy Toledo"  -  Bill King   "Just Win Baby" - Al Davis  "The Autumn Wind" - Steve Sabol
