Too bad it didn't work out that way.

Harper pissed anybody off yet tonight? And he wonders why pitchers want to drill him.

I call that close to being out of order, Jdawg! Harper doesn't mouth off at anyone, he just plays the game hard - and to win - that shouldn't piss off opposing pitchers, the Cubs, or anyone else. I don't think that there's a team in baseball that wouldn't like to have him on their staff. Attitudes like yours are more than likely based on jealousy, nothing else.
As for the constant comparisons with Trout, let's see what Harper has done by the time he's two years older, like Trout.
Meanwhile, he's equaled Ott for the second most homers in a season by a teenager! Equaling Mel Ott at anything when you're 19 sounds like pretty good going to me!
I'm sure that I'm in a minority, but I believe that deliberately throwing at a batter with the clear intention of hitting him should entail an automatic, and suitably severe, suspension and fine. If you hit a batter on purpose, it should cost you - big time - imho
Another thing - in view of what happened to the A's pitcher the other day, should pitchers be required to wear some kind of protective helmet?

Call it what you want, I'm not the only person that sees this kids "cocky" approach to the game. You say I'm jealous, but maybe you're to defensive because he's on your team. We're just looking at it from a fans perspective, but when other teams take offense to a guys attitude somethin's goin on. This isn't the first incident. The Giants have a player named Buster Posey who has a boat load of talent, but handles himself with total humility even after an almost career ending injury. I'll take the humble talent any day, it doesn't cause distractions. Regarding the McCarthy injury, there was some discussion on the Giants pregame show yesterday about protective headwear, but no one thinks it will happen, just some knee jerk reactions to one of the realities of the game. MLB did instigate a helmet rule for base coaches a few years ago after a AA 1st base coach got hit by a line drive and died from his injury. Only 1 MLB player has ever died from an on field injury and that occured in 1920 from a pitch that hit a batter in the head which resulted in batting helmets.

Jamie Quirk may be smarter than I gave him credit for. He has evidently fired up the Cubs with his tirade against the Nats...Cubs have won 4 straight since the melee(s)!

"Nobodys going to hit the ball out to left field right now, that wind is blowing in"...Duane Kuiper, the Giants announcer......"HE HITS IT DEEP...OUTAHERE"....Madbum absolutely crushed a fast ball into the teeth of Coors field, 20 rows deep!.....6 feet 5...230lbs and country strong....and a pitcher!!
My Yanks are in trouble, yall drop yer heads for the boys from the Bronx....HEY NOT NICE

Padres on a tear and crushing dreams. They might break .500 by season's end. Say thanks Tres.
Rick
can we get a do over for June?
yep, thanks Padres, except the "Graves" continue to dig themselves a deeper hole due to lack of offense. The pitching has been pretty good, the hitting overall has gone south.
The Nats just can't stop hitting homers at the moment. I only hope they don't use them up before we get down to serious business!
Last night was another of those rare days for me where everything went 'my' way. The Nats won, while the Braves lost, and on the other side, the O's beat the Rays while the Yanks lost.
C'mon, who wouldn't want to see a Beltway WS between two of the worst teams of the last decade?
Oh, and having previously gone 0 for 10 against Dickey, Harper last night went 3 for 3!

I think you should play the game hard all the time and I think you should play like you care about the outcome, or you shouldn't be playing. I know there was talk about swinging at a 3-0 pitch...but I don't see anything wrong with that, even if it's 27-0. The Chicago papers said Quirk was upset at the Nats stealing bases while up 7-2. If that happens in game 1 of the series, it's a non-issue. After the beating they took in the first 3 games, it became an issue. I originally said stealing bases with a 5 run lead is borderline "piling on", but under the circumstances...yeah, I think the Nats were sort of rubbing the Cubs faces in the dirt and that Quirk was justified.
News from the hottest team in baseball, the .622 Nats!
Morse out several days with a sore wrist, and......you ready for this......Davey Johnson may use Strasburg as a pinch hitter! Strasburg has apparently been driving the coaching staff crazy because he's just bursting to be involved in any way that he can be.
A day off for both of us Tres, before your last chance to do something about the eight game deficit. I think you know in your heart that the division title ain't gonna happen, and I understand that it must be pretty galling that your .566 would be good enough for the lead in three other divisions. It should be a close little series, I'm really looking forward to it, especially to the prospect of Gio getting his 20th win on Sunday.
I'm looking forward to it just to see if we can hit anything, anything please. We were swept by the Brewers and it will be good to get back home. Maybe we can figure out how to win one this weekend.
You get our best tonight George, Kris Medlen who has been red hot of late. Detwiler ain't no slouch either.

If I remember correctly, Medlen stymied the Nats the last time he faced them. On the other hand, the Nats have been hitting homers for fun the last few weeks. Unless you really collapse, you're still comfortably ahead of other NL WC contenders, so a few losses to the Nats would not be a disaster.
I was very pleased with Lannan the other day, not easy filling Strasburg's slot, so to speak. The AL East is turning into a wonderful contest. Go O's!
Pads start on the snakes today. They just got done sweeping the Cards. First time for that in ages. Making a run at third in the NLW!?
