Re: The NFL - National Football League

Rocket, my observation of "meaningless" referred to the entire preseason. Game 4 is usually a walk through with little real play shown and the last hurrah for the taxi squad hoping for a paying season. Too many starters have already been injured to risk any more in a meaningless game. Time will tell, but it looks like the Chargers have what it takes to get to post season play. I see them winning AFCW again with any luck.

Yeah, I know what you meant. Preseason IS meaningless, entirely.  I read the scrimages as well as the games, i.e., what practical knowledge or lessons learned came out of it?  Look for the Chargers to be causing their own problems at critical times is my prediction.  I hope they actually ARE good enough this year that I absolutely cannot get a ticket to a great game, as opposed to wanting them to be so bad I can get a good ticket free just to see some marquee player come to town and dish it out!

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Too many people worried about a couple bad calls deciding a game. Everybody focuses on the ref's mistakes....rather than the players mistakes, which are far more likely to affect the game. A dropped pass, a fumble or two, a stupid penalty.
I was always taught that you should never put yourself in a position to let the refs decide the game.
I understand these guys make about $100k for what is basically a part time job and they want an 8% raise. Anybody get an 8% raise last year?
Let 'Em sit out the season, it's ok with me.

There's always 2 sides to the coin Bill, they might be outta line with their pay raise request. Here's a thought, if any of you needed brain surgery would you like to have a veteran brain surgeon perform the operation or have Alec Baldwin walk into the ER saying, "It's OK, I've played a surgeon on TV."??????

Haha! Yeah, we'll I wouldn't let any of the referees operate on my brain...regulars or replacements.
Not a great comparison...I assume these replacements weren't actors that played referees on tv.

Head coaches have an eye for details, respected enough that the  red "Challenge Flag" MUST be addressed immediately.  More pressure on them.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

This from CNN intrigued me -

"In light of the current state of negotiations, we will have replacement crews on the field when the regular season begins," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.

The league has said that it searched for officials with college experience, but did not make the replacements available for comment. So, little is known about their backgrounds.

But at least one of them has worked in the past for the Lingerie Football League, according to reports. It's exactly what you think it is: women playing football in their underwear.

I was gobsmacked when I discovered that they aren't kidding! Check this, if you've never heard of this phenomenon - http://www.lflus.com/

So, any of you dawgs ever seen this on tv or elsewhere? They must have some great bloopers! tongue

Seriously though, we can only cross our fingers that these inexperienced, replacement refs don't %$#@ up the games or result in players getting injured. Maybe coaches should get extra challenges?

Skins open in NOLA against Brees & Co. I expect a loss. sad

This thread has been a bit quiet in the last couple of days. Obviously not many people happy with the Cowboys fantastic win!!

I got to watch all but the last part of the last quarter on the bar tv before Hiatt started. Entertaining and Dallas was dominating. The score was closer than the game play. A resurgance?

I didn't actually see the game. It's on too late over here when you've got work the next day! Hopefully it is the start of a resurgance but knowing Dallas it'll be a flas in the pan!

It seems my American sports teams aren't much loved on this forum, I recall that nearly everyone wanted New Jersey Devils to lose the Stanley Cup!

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Looks like my 49ers are going to shock the world in cheese town, sorry Roy....then my Raiders take it out on Ricks Chargers, sorry Rick....good news for the 4 players reinstated, "collective bargaining", the Saints are very lucky, unless Goodell decides to get them another way
