Never tried one but I think they are nice.  Anything Phil X likes has to be good.

Best to watch a Phil X demo of it to really show it off.
I saw him use two live...seriously wonderful tone.
The cheaper one is still excellent.

Yeah totally agree, didn't see him live yet but I watched the compressed Youtube shows with it and its killer.  They make them in China, but really the big difference is its not hand wired point to point so its got a circuit board, it has a master volume (the american made one doesn't) it has a fan to cool it down, and effects loop and these are the videos to watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTLKij7Ai9M
