Re: Steve Vai

Whispering a prayer is IMO the best Vai song.
youtube link
Simply awesome!

Re: Steve Vai

Liked that DVD so much I bought it twice...actually I gave it to someone who never returned it so I bought another. When I think of Eric Johnson, I think Cliffs of Dover and when I think of Vai I always think Whispering a Prayer. Its probably my favorite Vai song too.

Re: Steve Vai

Its on the setlist this tour. Cant wait till 10/11  Stevie and the first night of the NHL season!

Re: Steve Vai

Just saw Vai tonight over in Lancaster, PA. Simply the best performer I've ever seen. I personally see a connection with him and his guitar that I don't see with any other player. Fantastic showman and player.

Dave Weiner was there on rhythm guitar and has switched to PRS guitars and was using a Friedman head and 4X12 cabinet. He was always an Ibanez and VHT guy the last I knew.

Anyway, if anyone gets the chance to see him on his latest tour I say buy a ticket and go. A few other tricks up his sleeve that I'll leave out so if anyone else goes to see him soon you'll go in fresh. -S

Thx for the report...will see him this Thursday in Greensburg Pa....how much from the new cd does he do on the tour ?

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: Steve Vai

He opened up with maybe 3 from the new album. Then went into some older material and back to some new stuff later after the acoustic set. The new cd is good, took a few listens to get into it for me. I like his other stuff a little better.

Some of the older tunes he did were: Building the Church, Blue Powder, Audience is Listening, Frank (my 2nd favorite), Whispering a Prayer, & For the Love of God are some that I can remember off the top of my head. There are some videos up from last night if you search "Steve Vai Chameleon Club" but I'd wait and let the excitement build!

He really seemed to be enjoying the night, especially for a Sunday. His tone is exactly as on the albums, thick and dark.. Playing was spot on with no slop but then again, its Steve Vai so one shouldn't expect anything less! It was a smaller stage but he made the most of it in my opinion. Room was packed so if you're up for waiting in line I'd try and get a good spot if last nights crowd was any indication of how he fills other venues. Opening act was not to my taste but was worth the wait. He played for just about 3 hours. -Seth

Thx for the info.......Palace theatre has reserved seats...I've been to his shows in the past where it was 7 deep at the stage and it was a sea of people....
I like to sit instead of stand for 2-3 hours...:)

He became a PRS endorser a year or two ago - he has some really nice ones, including a swamp ash 513, and a custom-built 7 string.  Started using PRS amps pretty recently, too.  I really dig his solo stuff, he's a great player in his own right.

Re: Steve Vai

I still rock my Jem.. Had 6 or 7 different RG Prestige models. Sold them to help buy a house early this year. Only kept my Jem. What I like about Vai is to me, he doesn't use the guitar as an extension, he IS the guitar! Glad you enjoyed the show! -S
