Don't be too hard on Kenny, I was on the road many years ago and it's very rough. You end up feeling like you've been pulled through a knothole backwards, which is not very conducive to creativity. I personally toured with the Texas Boys Choir as a kid and it ended up burning me out by the time I was 15. My life was never the same and I'm not bitter about it but just offering the opinion that there are pitfalls along the way.
It took me many years to want to play music on my guitar again. Of course, some people deal with it better than others, and as a fact, Joe seems to thrive on it, which is way cool for us fans, huh?
I had the privilege to see both Joe and Kenny together with BB king last year at the Britt Music Festival in Central Point, Oregon. WOW! What a show! And I will say this about KWS: I saw Jimmy Hendrix half a dozen times in the late 60's in Dallas, Houston, and Los Angeles. He was always unpredictable, tempermental, and sometimes erratic and moody. Alot of that was due to the drugs he was up and downing on on a daily basis. Believe me, I'm not making a value judgement here, just an observation. All of us Flower Children did those things. It was a very different existence than today's scene. Jimi was certainly a musical genius. But so is Kenny Wayne, and he actually played Voodoo Child so well I cried. It was as if Jimi Hendrix was there playing through him....
I have often wished to GOD Jimi was in better control of his life and was still here. Imagine just what could have happened if he had lived. So, where this is going is that I'm thinking we have to consider ourselves lucky to be alive at all and really and truly blessed to have WHATEVER comes our way from these rare geniuses.
I find myself wishing Kenny would do something new, too. And as for his musical feeling, I definitely think he has the right stuff. After all, would BB tour with him and consider him one of our best new talents?
LOL to all and I love reading your posts!

Re: Kennywayneshepard.net

I met KWS and Double Trouble the first time I saw Joe Bonamassa play.  I was backstage and I couldn't believe what I was hearing....and I never heard his music before that.  I cut hanging out backstage early to get back into the front row to watch the rest of the JB concert!

JB is a lot more personable guy than KWS - KWS comes off as a little arrogant or doesn't have time for you.  I think KWS treated me different because we are similar in age or something. I felt really uncomfortable around him.  But Double Trouble were awesome guys! You can't beat Joe's people skills either...

Hi Kids! Yeah, I've heard that, too. About Kenny, that is. All I can say is that Joe most likely has his head a hell-of-a-lot-better together. Still, maybe he was just having a bad hair day.  It's definitely one thing to have talent, and yet another to know how to use it. Joe has to be one of the most impressive people I've ever met, and not to drop names, but I entertained Presidents Eisenhauer(SP>, it's been too long; shows you what an old fart I am!), Kennedy, and Nixon, sang opera with the greats, etc. ad nauseum.
Please remember. that being in the spotlight is not always easy and many times people are far more vulnerable than they seem. I really liked The Place You're In. And as crazy as it seems, Jimi Hendrix came off really weird and sometimes sarcastic and nasty, but the world loved him in spite of it. and I'm really not disagreeing with you at all.
People need to be positive and enjoy themselves or sometimes all the fame and fortune in the world won't matter a damn....
LOL as ever from Selma, OR

Re: Kennywayneshepard.net

If that was when I think it was, that was a bad time for Kenny. I think that was right around the time he was either just about to get cleaned up or right after. I've talked to someone who knows Kenny quite well, a former dj from the Tulsa area, and he said before he got cleaned up that Kenny was a bratty punk, he loved him to death, but he was a bratty punk. He said the transformation is night and day. He has matured, he has grown up and it's all for the better. That's his take on it. I don't know, personally, I've never met him. So I can't speak for myself.

I do know he puts on a heck of a live show, though, and can play the hell out of that guitar.

Re: Kennywayneshepard.net

KWS is ok, but compared to Joe, he seems like a hack.

Re: Kennywayneshepard.net

TeleFreakSteve here!
ANYBODY would seem like a hack compared to Joe! When I just saw him in chico, I turned to a guy at the next table, doing my street Team thing, and stated,"Have you heard this guy? You could combine Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana and he'd still win hands down!"
Needless to say, this was an inflammatory statement to draw him out and see where his head was at. But the joke was on me, because he laughed, "Hey buddy, do you know who your sitting next to? That guy next to me is his booking agent and I've known Joe since grade school!"
Now whether KWS belongs in such a dignified group does probably remain to be seen, but I have to agree with Deezer, all other things aside, he puts on a Hell of a show. And Joe's friend and agent definitely agreed when we briefly discussed KWS.

Re: Kennywayneshepard.net

KWS seemed so promising with Leadbetter Heights but took a dive afterwards.
From his website and that is the only way I have of seeing what he's doing it seems he did a deal with the pop devil.

Is this so ?

I take it Joe playing on the same bill puts JB as the headline act.

Still think a double bill tour to Europe & UK would be interesting.

Put Jason Bonham on drums & bring back Czar.

Re: Kennywayneshepard.net

Bonham!? What was wrong with Kramme?

Blues ain't nothin' but a good woman gone bad.

Re: Kennywayneshepard.net

Nothing wrong with Kramme, terrific idea, shall we have a vote on it.

Re: Kennywayneshepard.net

Bit unfair really.
Nothing against Bogie but Epstein appeared as another good bass player not outstanding.
Looking forward to September to see whats happened since the last gig I saw at Nottingham.
Suspect that they will have got it together.

Incidentally really took to Joe during our walk.

Give yer all guys you can do it.

Got to go, may not be back for some time.
