Topic: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

Hey Guys,

I'm thinking of trading in my Ovation Acoustic (regretful, but I haven't been playing much acoustic and I'm desparate to assemble my rig) to get a 2nd head to pair with my Ceriatone Jubilee....

Was thinking of the Egnater Tweaker 88, but I really like the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe/Deville tones as well... and I also like AC30's... Will probably run the combo's into one side of a 4x12 of Eminence Delta Pro's.

Can't wait for all you guys' opinions!

All the best from Australia,

- Stefan

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

Stefan,

The real difference is wattage/loudness - the Deluxe is loud, the Deville is REALLY loud.  Deluxe being 40W with a single speaker and the Deville being 60W with a pair of 12's or four 10's.

The Deluxe and Deville are really the same circuitry, the Deville just has an extra 20 watts on the 6L6s.

They both give a great Fender tone at lower/bedroom volume - but what are you after?  The lower volume breakup of the Deluxe or the additonal clean headroom of the Deville?

FYI: I was at the same decision point and went with a 2x12 Deville...  I'm only single-amping, but needed stage volume and went with the higher clean headroom because I can always dirty it up at lower volumes with pedals and that's acceptable to me.

All the best from the cornfields,

Hi Stefan

I had some nice results with hotrod deluxe ,but when I got my Ceriatone HRM

it was much better . also my Class 5 pairs nicely with the jubilee too Really any

amp with a nice midrange bark even if it sounds thin will pair with the jubilee

good luck D

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

Few years back I was running a Hot Rod Deluxe while my other guitarist was playing a dual setup.  He had a Peavey class 410 and a marshall jcm600 so it was kind of setup like joe does... but not quite.  We set are volume before people got there and we mic'd too.  But after we started playing not sure what happened I was louder then the band, so much so that he cut my mic off and turned everyone else up.  Half way though our set he asked me to turn the amp down.  The best I can tell you is I must have bumped the volume by mistake, but I was blowing both of his amps away with 40 watts and 1 speaker... normally its the other gutiar player thats got volume issues but not that day.  So my vote is FENDER!

AD3THREE: And that was with a 40 Watt Deluxe - I'm using the 60W Deville and it'll bust out the windows when I'm playing at home. smile

Stefan: Both are formidable stage amps and I'm sure that's what you need, but for anyone else reading - neither of these are your mother's bedroom amp! lol lol lol

If you want a bed room amp get a line 6!

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

Ahh good to hear they are good stage amps!! Will it keep up with a 100w Jubilee?

I played one the other day and was really impressed!!

I HAD a line 6, HAD. hahaha

cheers for the help guys,

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

No, I think if your running them like Joe runs his it won't keep up with a 100 watt jubilee.  I think the Hot rod will compress and distort when you turn it up to get as much as that ceriatone has on tap.  Now will it be a different sound?  Yes it will totally and most likely in a good way.  But I think you'll still have to turn down the ceriatone to get them equal in volume.  If your not wide open which most of us couldn't do that anyway you will be fine with a Deville 60 watt amp.  But might I suggest if your keen on the Fender sound and your wanting a clean amp try looking for a Super sonic 100 watts or something with more power on tap like a Super Reverb used.  You'll get more head room and I'm thinking that's what your looking for right?

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

I want semi clean, remember I will be running these amps into 2 99db sensitivity 12's each! So they will be even louder than what the initial combo is! Want to try the Egnater soon and will revisit some fenders tonight!

Thanks for your help Arnold!! smile

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

Played the Hot Rod Deluxe again today, really love it's tone!! I reckon either the deluxe or the deville!!

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

really think the Deville due to the extra 20 watts of power.  If you want it to stay cleanish anyway.

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

I would go with the Fender. It will give you the crystal clean mids and reverb that you need to shape the tone.

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

Yeah the fenders are great!!

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

I might be picking up a Traynor YCV40-WR which is said to be like a Hot Rod Deluxe but with a better OD channel, sounds good to me!!

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

Stefan,

I don't mean to dis Traynor amps - but thought you were looking for a clean tone to blend?

You're getting off track here, kid! smile

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

They have a great clean channel, but I can also use the dist channel to get the JB style solo tones.

The general overdrive is better.

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

Plus it only has to be cleanish!! haha

Re: Fender Hot Rod, Egnater Tweaker or AC30 to blend with Jubilee

I think if you run the 100 watt Jubilee with a 60 watt Deville its going to be cleanish not clean and sparklie.  I also think your going to take the first couple of rows heads off.  Maybe if you do like Joe and use a plexi shield to redirect the sound you'll be ok.  Really think that clean tone will cut through better with a fender then a Traynor.  You can't do better clean then Fender and I'll go to my grave with this in mind, If you can get a clean tone you can get a distorted tone with a pedal.  It does NOT work the other way around as easily.  Plus the Deville is no pansy when it comes to the distortion department.
