Topic: Proud Mom

I'm so proud of my son. He is 19 years old and has just finished writing his second novel! The first one was published this past November, is called "A Broken World" and is available through Amazon. It is the prequel to the one he just finished which is called "Discordant Tones" and is the first in a trilogy. They are classified as young adult fantasy. His creative abilities and perserverance really amaze me. He had to push himself to finish this one before he returns to University of Maryland where he is triple majoring in biochem, genetics and creative writing! I really don't know how he does it all. I am just so proud of him.

Re: Proud Mom

We went to the Rocknfish to eat also before the show, but I didn't know what you looked like and I am kind of shy so I lacked the courage to go up to random people and introduce myself. Next time I will push myself to do it because you do seem really nice and we will probably be out in California again (hoping for a Rock Candy Funk Party show).

We aren't hard to spot. Just look for the table full of folks with JoeB shirts of various rarities and huge grins on their faces in anticipation of good things to come. We had the table for 10 in the back below the caricatures of the 'Stones.

Thanks, we will definitely introduce ourselves next time.

Re: Proud Mom

My son is doing a book signing along with five other local authors at Greetings and Readings in Hunt Valley, MD this saturday at 1. So if you live in the area and want to check out some local writers, please stop by. It's his first one, so he is both nervous and excited.

Re: Proud Mom

Yeah, I will be there. Probably milling about trying to be inconspicuous. He told me he doesn't want us to be hovering around him. You know how embarassing parents can be to a teenager smile! It would be great to meet you. Hope to see you there.

Re: Proud Mom

That is amazing to be so accomplished at such a young age. Sounds like a special young man. I aspired to write as a younger man but did not have the ability or drive necessary to succeed. To do it with all of today's distractions and school too speaks volumes about his abilities. Congratulations I look forward to reading his book. I need a little fantasy in my life right now. Even though I'm not such a young adult anymore.

Ditto, Jim.

Natasha, I have a FB friend in Hunt Valley, gave her a heads up about this, she'll try to come along too.

Re: Proud Mom

Thanks for letting your friend know, Amsterhammer. Spreading the word seems like one of the hardest things sometimes. We are hoping he can get a bigger publisher for the second book, because they would probably have better marketing techniques. He has been invited to Mysticon in February, which is like Comicon for fantasy writers, so hopefully he can get better exposure there. It is all pretty exciting.

Re: Proud Mom

It was so nice to meet you, Jane. It was really sweet of you to come out to that horribly crowded shopping center when you had such a busy day. Cassidy definitely thanks you as well. I look forward to seeing you again, definitely in May at the Hippodrome if not sooner.

Re: Proud Mom

My son, Cassidy, just published his second book. The book is titled "Discordant Tones" and is the first book in a young adult fantasy trilogy. The previous book he wrote is a prequel to this series. He decided to self publish this time since you actually make more money this way, not like he gets much either way, but at least it is a bit more than if he had stayed with the first publisher. It is available through amazon as both a paperback and kindle version.

Paperback: http://www.amazon.com/Discordant-Tones- … +cornblatt

Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/Discordant-Tones- … +cornblatt

Re: Proud Mom

Hi Natasha,

WOW, this is so cool!!! What an accomplishment at such a young age. Triple major, what a brilliant young man.  I recently toured University of MD, just amazing facilities, my husband really liked the golf course. I wish Cassidy the best of luck in his endeavors.

AND you have every right to be a proud Mom. smile

Re: Proud Mom

Thanks Angela. Phil and I are very proud of him.  It's interesting to me how people are who they are almost from day one. He has always been very responsible and mature. Sometimes I feel he is more of a grown-up than I am smile

Re: Proud Mom

That is so awesome, you should be very proud! One of the network news shows may have been the CBS Sunday Morning show did a great story recently on self publishing, great way to get your work out without hands in the earnings. The story shared several success stories. Encourage him to keep it up, such a great accomplishment for someone so young smile

Re: Proud Mom

Thanks Angela, he'll be so happy to hear that! He checks everday to see if any have sold and always wonders who the people are. Last night he had a lengthy phone interview with University of Maryland's school paper. They are going to do an article, but unfortunately it will be coming out next week when hardly anyone is on campus. Wish it could have been done in the fall instead. Oh well, any exposure is good. Promoting oneself is a difficult task.
