Topic: Battle of the blues

The show started out with Dr. John playing for 45 min. Then the blues finalists each played and that took up about an hour. Then Joe and his band started playing at 10:25 and ended at 11:45. The songs they did were:
Slow Train
Last Kiss
Dust Bowl
Blues Deluxe w/ Dr. John
Whose Been talking
Sloe Gin
Ballad of John Henry
Lonesome Road Blues
Django/Mountain Time

encore:Crossroads

Joe seemed really excited and he was jamming like mad. It was incredibly loud, I think because the place was small. So cool to be able to see so well. Right behind the pit. Wished Joe could have played longer, but incredibly happy we saw what we saw. Joe was on fire!

Thanks for the list.  Great show last night, by far the loudest Joe show I've ever seen.

I think that is the one that Kim at Historic makeovers did for Joe. I sent one of my JB gold tops to him for the full treatment and he showed me pictures of that Bigsby gold top.

My hearing has still not completely returned to normal smile!

Re: Battle of the blues

Was at show in Nokia Club, LA, CA last  nite..Joe and company were great.
Good thing because the mix was terrible.. Dont get me wrong i like loud..but Joes vocals were unhearable, Joes guitar was great, drums mix was amazing, the bass guitar was just about there in the mix, the keyboards were missing along with Joes vocals. It the first time ive seen JB live I wish the mix had been better. In this day and age with the equipment avaliabe, there is no reason for a mix this bad.

For Dr John the mix was good.

The contestants of the Blues guitar play off had it very bad.  Its like the mixer was asleep..no excuse..some one didn't do their job.

I will see JB again, no doubt about it!!

Welcome Ron. (best guess...) You just confirmed why I always try to get down front. I assume you were up in the loft seats. No problem with mix at the stagefront, though the first contestant was drowned out by the rythym guitarist so that we could barely hear her on the electric part.

We were along the railing, right in front of the soundboard, and there were a number of times that Joe's voice was completely overpowered by the other instruments.  I think they had the volume up to what Nigel from Spinal Tap would refer to as "11" ! smile

Re: Battle of the blues

Without a doubt the best version I've ever heard of the Django intro to Mountain Time. Joe walked over and gave me a very close view. WOW! That EBMM Dark Lord just sings.
You can hear the audio mix futz up towards the end of Mountain Time, something was up with the house mix there.

BTW, I forgot to mention that Jim Moody came down to the pit before the show and introduced himself and said hi. An honor Jim!

I was in the balcony but had to retreat. Stood by the soundboard where it wasn't as loud. The mix position was deep under the balcony so the sound didn't carry back that far. I thought it sounded full and comfortably loud standing by the soundboard. The Balcony had me reaching for my earplugs which I had brought for the contestants. wink Downstairs was still loud at the front but not as loud as the balcony. I don't think the house system was tuned. I never use plugs for Joe. It was more of a rock show. It was at rock show volume that was for sure.

Nice to meet you too Rick. Didn't know Linda was there too till I saw your pics. I had met Linda in NY but would of liked to say hi. I admire your stamina for holding the front rail for the duration. I watched most of the show from the balcony. First time in LA for me other than a brief trip to Malibu a few years ago. Need to come out and join you all for a Backed Potato gig sometime.

Just let me know and I'll try and score you a ticket if it goes down Jim. That was most of the Baked Potato crew on the rail, the rest were there too in various places. Tired? When we walked out of the show I'd been on my feet for 7 hours straight. I volunteered to go stand in line and hold a place for the crew two hours before the doors opened so we all would be first in line while they continued the preparty down at the RocknFish. I advised all the people around me in line that I was actually 10 lol. No big deal for the BonaSpud crew since we stand in line for 6 hours outside the Baked Potato for the best seats. Hope you are up for that. wink

Maybe Joe will let me carry in a guitar for him through the back door. wink

Joe carries his own rig through the front door. He joked about being his own guitar and amp tech.  We feed his meter while they do soundcheck.
