Could it be a better review?

Re: Modern Guitar Review of Sloe Gin

"But, whether acoustic or electric, it's the album's emphasis on singing, song, and stylistic blending that sets it apart from Bonamassa's previous records."

I'm am so tired of hearing about this emphasis on singing and songs since Kevin Shirley took the helm.
I enjoyed Joe's vocals and songs more on his previous albums. On "SILT",  he had more great original songs, which is one of the reasons that album is special for me. His vocals were awesome on the studio version of "The River"  and "Reconsider Baby"  plus all his earlier songs.  One thing I love about Joe is that his guitar solos blended well into his songs now and beforehand.  I just don't see a better difference between now and then with all this emphasis that is supposed to be taking place. Except maybe the Stylistic blending on this new album.

"Holy Toledo"  -  Bill King   "Just Win Baby" - Al Davis  "The Autumn Wind" - Steve Sabol

I think August 21 is going to usher in a whole new era in Bonamassa history.

I can hardly wait to hear this CD. Two weeks seems way too far away.

I'm just saying.

From what I've heard so far, 4 songs from the album, I would definitely say it's his most commercial album - definitely mellower. Therefore, it will definitely be his best seller.

Hi-

This album definitely showcases his vocals. I feel in my opinion he showcases his vocals on the song "Richmond" the best from the album.

Re: Modern Guitar Review of Sloe Gin

In my opinion, there's a very Page(as in Jimmy) quality to a lot of Joe's work on this album, both in the acoustic and electric work, and apparently Kevin Shirley picked up much sonic-wise from Jimmy while working on the Led Zeppelin DVD. I'm really surprised the writer didn't mention this in the review.

Kudos to Joe for coming across as almost a modern day Jeff Beck Group on "Another Kind Of Love" also. As for the vocals, truly Joe's finest yet. They've always been powerful, yet it's in the INFLECTIONS and phrasing where Joe has lifted them to a new level. As an instrument, they're easily on the level of the stellar guitar playing, and on "Seagull," the vocals rival Paul Rodgers. High praise indeed, as I consider Paul one of the all time best. This is an album which begs to be listened to as a whole to be appreciated fully, which was Joe's intention. The cohesiveness, and the album's flow is commendable. It's a very well rounded offering which scores on all levels, and I predict this will be the benchmark against which all future releases in the blues rock genre are compared to in the future.

Dean, no fair tongue tongue tongue tongue tongue

I'm sure one of you can explain to me exactly what the whole a side b side thing is about.
I never had alot of lps, i was more a cassette era person. I can say that i had the Bad company casette Straight Shooter for a looong time before I ever listened to side 2 and discovered some of my now favorite songs but other recordings I had which weren't many, I liked songs on either side. many of the hits were track 7 or 8 alot of time.
I always thought of a side and b side meaning b side was the other side of a 45, where the a side was the "hit" or "single" and the b side was rarely listened to.b nto a whole albulm sort of thing.

Re: Modern Guitar Review of Sloe Gin

My take on it is that Joe sees Side A (tracks 1-5) as getting the most air-play compared to Side B (tracks 6-11).   Maybe to simplistic, I don't know.  Maybe he will tell us.

Great review!!! I have to say I'm not surprised that the forthcoming release is going to be regarded so highly by fans and crtitics. Joe is continuing to grow musically....it's apparent from each gig that I've had the privilege to witness. I think Sloe Gin is really going to be the CD that puts Joe so much further into the public eye.....and it'll be well deserved!!
