Re: The next time you want to bi*ch about living in the USA...

There was a big article yesterday in the paper. The Orthodox Church is pressing the issue as a defamation case and the govt. prosecution sees another chance to make a case against dissidents. Madonna wore a shirt with the band name in her concert this weekend in Moscow which probably added fuel to the fire since she's considered a defamer as well. Not looking good for the band. hmm

DISCLAIMER
This post is in no way expressing anything other than informative news since both sides of this issue are on delicate ground, mixing politics and religion. sad yikes

Re: The next time you want to bi*ch about living in the USA...

Madonna also appeared on stage with the band's name written on her back.

Freedom of religion should also equal freedom to give any religion grief.  IMO, most of them earn it...suppose that makes me a heathen.  Amen, I say.

And politicos are in the same boat.  Were stuck with both politics and religion...unique human inventions, and not among our better efforts, all too often.  (Not to rock anybody's boat....)

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

I don't have a problem with giving grief to a religion. What I do find fault with is that said band going into a church and cursing out the religion in front of its followers.Just as I find it hoorbly oofensive for anti war protesters to protest at a servicemans funeral.Time and place for everything. If these young "ladies"went in and swore in front of its churchgoers they should be punished,Whether Madonna likes it or not.If they sang a song at a concert that's one thing. But to do it inside the church is a whole different thing all together.

Careful folks, this is treading on very thin ice for this forum. Russian justice will follow its course whether we like it or not.

They seem like young chicks just looking to make a name for themselves. In the US, this wouldn't have cracked more than a few grins. They prob. would have been arrested for doing it though. Getting publicity is a way to get big...

There's a metal band from Iraq that got refuge status in America for playing heavy metal music called
ACRASSICAUDA. I met those lads, they are very outgoing and nice.  They can talk about gear all day. James Hetfield from Metallica was at the airport to greet them when they came. Gave the guitar player a guitar. http://youtu.be/9pFTnNAiBJ4 Pretty classy.

gary,

Wanted to say I fully agree with your "time and place" thought.  Freedom of speech has never really been a strong tenet of Soviet (now Russian) political thinking.  (And FWIW, my earlier post wasn't aimed specifically at you.)

And we certainly both agree that the punishment looks to exceed the offense.

I think we all agree the treatment is harsh, but that's Russia. I fear the best they can hope for is a reduced sentence. At least it isn't going to be off to the gulag or worse most likely. It's become an international cause celebre.

The P word that rhymes with fussy is usually a slang term in the US that is popularly edited out because it's vulgar. I believe in the UK, similar edited slang terms would be "hack" or "wanker"... those terms are very light in the US and don't hold 1/100th the weight that the same terms do in the UK from what I understand.

It's sort of funny that US and UK prioritize different slang terms.

Just keeping it PC cool

OK thanks , I just think if your using this P word in context - in this case, part of the Band's name - that can't be considered vulgar, can it? cool
