Topic: Wah problems

Hey everyone... just wondering if anyone here has had any similar problems. I have a standard VOX wah and it is in the front of my pedal chain. When I go to kick it on it doesnt sound like the wah is getting a full sweep. Its almost as if there is an on off switch in the sweeping mechanism and it just doesnt sound right to me. Advice?

i to have a Vox WAH, and i've had this problem too....in my case it seems there is very little sweep or none at all and i've had the pots changed about 6 times over the past five years, for a pedal i only ever use very sparingly and never practice with it for home use it never makes any difference.....it still sounds the same sad i was gonna post to ask did anyone know of a good mod that might overcome this problem........sorry i was of no help Logo

Re: Wah problems

I think the problem is its not a Cry Baby.   Has your sweep changed over time?

Re: Wah problems

Truthfully it's not something I even use regularly. I was just jamming yesterday with the new SG and kicked it on just because. Even not using it much, it's still something that I'd like to have on my board and be able to depend on it. Maybe I'll get a JB wah.

Re: Wah problems

IMHO my vox sounds better than my crybaby... But the vox is unreliable... Maybe it's time for a JB wah?

Re: Wah problems

I really dig the sound of the Robert Keeley modded Wah's too.

Re: Wah problems

I really like the Cry Baby Classic not the standard Cry Baby.  The standard is much more bright and sounds like nobody.  The Classic sounds like all the sounds you heard back in the 60's and its smoother.  Fasel circuits are the best.

Re: Wah problems

I used a VOX wah up until I got eh JV wah.
My old guitar tech did mods on them for Tommy Chong, and did the same to my Vox wah: shaved the rubber stoppers off of the pedal for more sweep and better feel of the button, and did something with the wires so it's either tru bypass or so it wont bleed the battery unles the wah is engaged.

I like the JB better.

Re: Wah problems

I've just sold my Vox wah onwards as I got hold of a JB wah on EBay for a great price.  What I love about the JB wah is that it seems more expressive when using OD and the switching is easier - with the Vox I had to really dig into the pedal to switch it on/off.  Very pleased to make the change.  For ages though I used a Boss V-Wah which is now going to be sold off also.
