Hmmmm..... looks just like the place i used to run on  friday afternoons -the deserts of Saudi Arabia!  I wonder if it's just as hot!

edit: apparently not ...  it's a lot colder on Mars than Earth's Antartica,

Another space geek, checking in.  Been watching the daily news conferences, and was glued to my screen for the EDL broadcast.

What an amazing accomplishment, to land Curiousity the way Nasa did.

Here's a pretty cool space geek tool, for those who aren't aware.  (I first learned of it during the briefings.)  Eyes on the Solar System has some really great animations based on actual mission data, including the Mars Science Laboratory mission.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

There was a very neat interview on tv yesterday with the mission rocketeer in charge, a twenty-something gentleman who was as far as you'd think in appearance from the normal JPL nerd. Shaved side hair with a dyed bright red topknot. cool Obviously one sharp dude. I'm looking forward to some exciting science being accomplished by this mission. We are getting some extra tv coverage here because many of the team are locals. So far the pictures have been breathtaking in the scope and resolution. Having the orbiter in place has allowed the spaceborne segment to act as a relay repeater which saves a lot on power. I love to see my tax dollars spent this way!
