Does anyone know where Joe found this LD Miller on the harp? This kid is amazing!
I thought I heard that LD was playing a festival with his family's band, when Joe heard him and asked him to play with him. I think they had a couple of opportunities like that, prior to him coming to Vegas when Joe plays there. I think Joe was impressed enough that he wanted him to play on his next recording from very early on.

I can see where Joe sees a lot of himself in LD. Both child prodigies. I could see some type of mentoring thing going on.
L.D.'s great and I agree that Joe must have recognized a bit of himself in this young man. Talent like that, the ability to draw such passion and depth from the music is a rare thing. L.D. definitely has a great mentor in Joe. You can bet that L.D. and Joe will always have that bond, just like Joe and B.B.
I'm lucky enough to be from the same city as LD. He started a long time ago with the Clayton Miller Band, which is made of his family, his two brothers and dad along with him. The band was always great. A real good chance to hear some local blues rock when bigger names never came around. As he got better, his oppurtunties got even better. He was on an NBC show quite a while ago, Americas Most Talented Kid, he didnt win on that, but dang it he should have. Then some how he got hooked into Las Vegas. Headling some major production there, like the youngest person to ever headline or something amazing like that. The Clayton Miller Band hasnt been very active in a long time, but LD has obviously been out there. Just an incredible player really.

When is it that LD is supposed to be on that new talent search show? I'll definitely be tuned in for that.
I think it's that show "America's Got Talent". It's airing pretty soon, I think. This week or next week-
Yeah, PC is correct, at least to my knowledge. Joe met LD at Prairie Dog Blues Fest in Prairie du Chien, WI on July 30, 2004. My husband and I were there.
Hey Angela, what Clayton Miller CD do you have? We've been trying to get the latest, but it hasn't been available anywhere that we can find. We picked up "Gotta Have Love" at the show that night and got it signed by the whole Miller clan. Love it! We might be able to catch them in Wis. in November.
The only CD that you can get is "Gotta Have Love." Theyre also got Live At Duncan Hall but they ran out of those a long time ago, and just havent had any more made.
Yeah, I figured that was the case when I checked their site yesterday. I was thinking there was another new CD last year that we were trying to get, but it must have been the Duncan Hall one. Gotta Have Love is great, though. Love the vocals and guitar. They're all quite talented for their age, and like Joe, very kind and humble when we met them. We missed them in Wis. last year, as they played a different city on the same night as Joe.
Might be able to make the Beloit show this year.
Hi Becky! Gotta Have Love is what I bought. The other CD was unavailable. I would love to see the Miller clan perform! I initially didn't get the connection between the new Idol winner and LD until the media started covering Taylor and I saw he plays harmonica, I thought he was just a singer. I will definitely tune in to see LD this summer.

I was also there (Prairie Dog Blues Fest, 2004) and remember the slightly chubby kid with a baseball cap on wowing the audience on harp with Joe. In fact, I was a little disappointed that Joe gave L.D. the stage through most of the set since I had obviously gone to see Joe perform. Anyway, it was a great fest and I'll be there again this year. You can camp right onsite and hear the music from where ever you are and drink beverages from real cans and bottles.
Being a harmonica player myself, I'm aware of his enormous talent and possibilities. In no way, shape, or form is he the best harp player out there YET. He still thinks playing fast is the ticket to being the best, and like any instrument, playing with feeling is the way to grasp the soul of an audience. Speed will make them go "ooooh" but feeling makes them go "aaaah".
I've seen him a few times and he knows how to play with feeling too. I think because he's still unknown and get's thrown in a situation to play before a big audience for only a song or two, showing off his amazing speed is the way to really hit the broader audience over the head quickly with how good he is. But he's got the old soul too. As for the TV show, America's Got Talent, I heard they are on again for the semifinals this coming Wednes. July 12 and AMerica gets to vote I think for just 24 hours. I don't know how many times we get to vote, but I'll be voting as much as they let me for LD and his brother Cole.
NBC seems to really be pushing another little girl singer...featuring her everywhere..she's good but I'd hate to see this broader talent show turn into another glorified karaoke contest. Let's all vote it up for someone with some real instrumental chops...The Millers. Even if you can't catch the show, you can still vote!!! I think at NBC.com Let's do it, Joe and LD fans!!!
