Topic: Please say a prayer...and I'm livid

John Larimer was killed at the awful shooting at the movie theater in Colorado. He was a real life hero, shielding his girlfriend from harm when the chaos began. John enlisted in the navy, hoping to protect his country and save others lives. John and his siblings lived near (and grew up with) my daughter's husband. I never had the pleasure of meeting John, but his sister remained very close friends with my son-in-law as they got older and became close friends with my daughters, attending both their weddings. John's body was delivered home today and his wake is tomorrow.
I cannot begin to imagine the pain that his family is going through, all due to a random, senseless act of violence from a madman.

Why am I livid? When I got home tonight, I found out that the Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing tomorrow's wake. These are people who consider themselves christians, but are using someone else's pain and suffering to draw attention to themselves and their "cause".

Please say a prayer for John and his family. I know this is wrong to ask, but please say another prayer that Fred Phelps and his followers rot in hell.

Here is a link to one of the first stories about John Larimer after the shootings.
Rest in Peace John...I wish we had a chance to meet.

Re: Please say a prayer...and I'm livid

My heart staggers erratically at the close to home nature of this for you and yours and therefore me also, Bill.  Please bear up with my condolences upon you and yours, and the entire city of Crystal Lake.

As far as these s**tbirds...Livid can work miracles, Bill.   Look 'em eye to eye (reign back anger with fortitude of truth), and remind gently, "Judge not lest you be judged".  This quote on your heart as said there AND ALOUD is guaranteed to do soul much damage, and further winning V.I.P. crouching seating in hell if peace, over anger, doesn't come upon the ears it is delivered to.

Rest In Heroic, Lovely,  Surely Well-Deserved Peace, Mr. John Larimer from Crystal Lake, Illinois.
Amen.

My most heartfelt condolences Bill. The fringe kooks border on the lunacy the perpetrator lives with. I'm livid myself at the whole deal. We've had more than our share here in San Diego. Rocket's advice rings true as the hell they all are certainly headed for.

...always thought it interesting a 'wake' was called a wake! ...what do you see when you wake? ....the light right! ...may he be bathed in it forever and more!

...sorry to read this Bill!

Re: Please say a prayer...and I'm livid

I read the other day that John was from Crystal Lake and wondered if you knew him.  So, so sorry for your family's loss - big hugs to you all.

Why are these people picking on this particular wake to picket?  The things done in the name of religions...

Go in safety, walk in peace.

Sandy, they specifically target almost always, deceased military members (regardless of cause of death) and then throw down the homophobia and sliding "American" roll "values" as the cause, and describe judgement, and that as not being theirs (but it is-that's the foul part).

I am in no way ascribing (and you should not either) political or religious parameters to my above comments.  The comments are "colored" a certain way to show I am saddened by the events that have taken place, whether military or "religious", and just distill my anger down to, and you can quote me on this, "You just don't mess with a person's funeral and memorial".

Re: Please say a prayer...and I'm livid

I entirely echo Rocket's words above Bill, and also send my condolences and sympathy.

I'm sure you are all aware of the potential, 'over the line' side tracks of this topic, and therefore urge you all to just stick with expressing condolences, so that this topic doesn't wind up going south.

John is a true American hero, sorry to hear this news. Sorry this hit close to home Bill.

And I just don't get the protestors, they are hyprocrites thinking they are so righteous, totally lacking empathy. They feel something is wrong so they do something wrong to stress their point... **&&*()_+&&^^^%%^^&$#@$$#$!!!

Re: Please say a prayer...and I'm livid

random violence seems to be a way of life these days, very sad he had to be there. Prayers offered for friends and family going out to you in this hard time, prayer for the community in general except for the Westboro folks who are misguided to say the least. I cannot imagine what their goal could be in this, and don't want to know. I hope the wake goes well, take care Bill.

Re: Please say a prayer...and I'm livid

Thanks all. Of course Rockets words are sage advice as usual.
I have always seen red when it comes to the WBC protestor, but nobody should sink to their level.
I shouldn't have even mentioned WBC in my initial post...the focus should be on John and his family. I apologize for my lapse in judgement.

So sorry Bill. I agree 100% with your feelings. Life can change so quickly. Big hugs to all. Cathy

Praying..... These Westboro people make me sick!

Re: Please say a prayer...and I'm livid

Wow. I just saw this.

Why are those people so hateful? Jesus preached love. They are not Christians. They sicken me.

Heartfelt condolences to all Bill.

If you're still up north, enjoy every last moment of peace and serenity before heading back to the rat race.

Re: Please say a prayer...and I'm livid

I would GLADLY be arrested for taking out one or some of those people at a protest. I almost wish they would come around here again so I can..

Great story in a way though, just goes to show selfless service doesn't only apply when in uniform or when on the battlefield. Even if he wasn't with his girlfriend, I'll bet someone like that would shield even a stranger next to him. Its a shame those who are worthy of life are sadly the ones who leave too early.

Re: Please say a prayer...and I'm livid

Prayers sent bill!  As for the pieces of trash that are "protesting". Words cannot express my disgust and anger i feel for them.   I hate them. .  I know its not good to say but its true. I hate them wish there was some way to stop them from doing what they do.

Re: Please say a prayer...and I'm livid

Just saw this.My deepesy sympathies to you and your family and of course Johns family and loved ones.
