BA launched a new Olympics themed advert yesterday which is quite clever BUT the REALLY clever bit is you can put in any UK postcode or address (or try both) and "thanks to CGI and Google Maps", the advert will include the B777 taxiing up your road!

Try it!

No idea if it will work with zip codes etc.

I tried it and it doesn't work for the US.  sad   Very clever ad (I saw it a while ago), and I love the way they doctor it up for your address.  I am looking forward to the coverage, but mostly I like the sidebar stories about the area and its people.  Hope they show some of the equestrian events - Maggie was kind enough to take us on a tour of Greenwich last year and I love being able to see a place and say - I've been there!

3 days away now for the Opening Ceremony and the start of the 2012 Olympic Games!  I'm really starting to get excited about the whole thing but I can sympathise with anyone who works or needs to be in London over the next two weeks.

The staff in our department have been allowed to vary their working hours to try avoid the likely transport chaos and I, together with most others, have elected 7am - 3pm in the hope of getting home to see some of the action on TV. As it normally takes me 90 minutes to get to work it will be quite an early start! yikes I normally work 7.45am to 6pm anyway so not such a big deal, just not sure I'll get away at 3pm.

Wow, first big surprise as Japan stuns Spain in men's football. Kudos to our ladies for the big comeback vs France.

The Olympics .... The Greatest Show on Earth begins very shortly with the opening ceremony in London

Expect a truly incredible show with loads of sport, music and joyous celebrations. and some surprises too ?

Sort of proud it's in my home town, they've done amazing to build and make this happen in a rundown part of London

Jane is that Michael Phelps in your avatar, if he wins 3 more medals, he wil be officially the greatest olympian

Me i love the sprints and Usain Bolt and his challegers ... The BBC will cover this in huge modern digital detail, guaranteed

I do hope you are right Michael as I'm still cringing at the thought of the closing ceremony in Beijing. yikes

It's currently chucking it down with rain in London. Such a shame after the fantastic weather we've had this week. I think they need Cathy's giant condom. oooerrr. big_smile

Four minutes to go. Time to settle down to watch. smile Hope you all enjoy peeps.

Re: London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics

I love the Olympics! I hope all goes smoothly for our friends across the pond. Tape delay 'till primetime for the opener tonight, but there has been almost continuous coverage here of the preliminaries for football. I rigged my off the air antenna for pickup of the Mexican broadcast coverage from nearby Tijuana. Last Olympics it was far better without the smarmy jingoism so prevalent in our broadcasts. My so-so Spanish gets me by and often the coverage is better in sport not so popular here. I'll be switching channels when the meat hits the sand during the ladies beach volleyball.

A very cool story of the first world record broken of the games. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/sk … story.html

I've found a play by play on BBC. I like all the info. I think it will be easier to understand all that is going on later when we get to see it all.  VERY happy that Wiggins rang the bell to start everything. I could have made a lot of money selling my giant condoms in London! smile    Cathy

Re: London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics

interesting the number of songs used by Danny Boyle that have been previously banned by the BBC... "Pretty Vacant", "Relax", "Satisfaction" to name a few....a good show so far that overall did I think show us as we are.... happy to take the piss out of ourselves with Mr Bean... Looked like Betty had been sucking on a lemon through the National anthem though...

...could be completely wrong but do wonder what the surprise will be with lighting the cauldron flame...wonder if it will be a group of ex Olympians as opposed to just one?

San Diego has a lot of interest in the Olympics. The national training facility is in the city of Chula Vista, just south of San Diego, and trains 80% of our national team athletes.

Bravo London!! That was thrilling and very moving! I had trouble getting thru the parade of countries, but don't we all? lol I'm stoked for cycling and swimming to begin tomorrow (oops, today). Maryland is very proud of Michael Phelps already and the US team has more girls than boys this year.  Girl power !!! smile      Cathy

Fantastic opening ceremony last night! The history, the music, the humour, the pyrotechnics ect ... all came together - Job well done by all involved.

I nearly got it right,  who was going to light the Olympic flame.
A nice touch i thought, giving the final honor to seven young aspiring Olympians. I thought the cauldron idea was inspired.

Lets hope 'the Cav' can bring home our first Gold in the cycling road race later.

Re: London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics

I haven't enjoyed a (one day) cycling race so much in years! big_smile

My pleasure stems from a combination of being a long-term Vino fan, my dislike of any team that dominates in the way that Sky has been doing, and the way the UK media, led by the Beeb, expected this race to go totally to Sky's plan and result in another sprint win for Cav.  Add to that the fact that I don't much care for Cav anyway, and I'm an exceedingly happy bunny tonight. cool

Smaller teams (max. 5,) more teams, and no radios are what made this race so much more exciting than what we saw in the Tour - imo. wink

RIP Iron Man

Rock On and keep the Faith

Disappointed for 'the Cav' today - the interview he did after, explained how and where he thought it went wrong.

likewise, - but did n't see the post race interview, - got the feeling that a 5 man team could not control the race as well as was required. Also cannot help but think that the teams did not get as much information as they needed in comparison to the major tours or classics. I would have preferred to see the excitement of a bunch sprint as opposed to a rider winning who had not fulfilled his career potential am essentially won as a result of the error of judgement of the other riders around him when he and the Columbian broke away. It was interesting to see how flat Box Hill looked in comparison to my memories of riding up it many times.

Excuse the negative bit, - but not impressed to see empty seats in events...un friggin believable given then farce surrounding the initial sales that priced people out of the opportunity... sad
