The torch will come by my way on the 25th july!
I watch the Olympics and enjoy many of the events, but it seems to me that they are moving further and further away from their purpose of sportsmanship and competition bringing the world together.
Like professional sports in general, the games have succumbed to the chase for money. Perhaps some of the TV networks and their sponsors (evidently the only ones making money from the games) should subsidize blocks of tickets for every day fans that can't afford full prices? Haha, like they'd go for that!
Face it, this has become an elitist/corporate games where the average person is lucky if they can afford to go to a single event. Is that bad? If you can't afford to attend, then watch on TV.
24th June, the torch continues it's journey through Manchester > http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchrelay/day37
Here, Sir Bobby Charlton get to carry the Olympic Torch - through Trafford - and in front of, Old Trafford (The Theater of Dreams) https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hp … 1488_n.jpg
Last week one of our employees gave notice because she is relocating to London. Her husband works for U.S. Customs and the federal government is moving their family to London for a year. He is moving ahead of the family and will be working in the airport before the Olympics start. I still can't wrap my head around how its efficient to move an entire family, all expenses paid including one year of housing, school for 2 children, etc... Regardless, its a great opportunity!
Let the games begin, as they say. I enjoy watching the opening and closing ceremonies and the competition in between. I don't care too much for the dramatic stories the networks spin on some of the athletes.

Angela, what's to try and wrap your head around? You said your friend is a Gov't. employee, 'nuff said!
Rock The Vote!

for fear of getting political:
Organisers of the London Olympics are trying to make professional musicians perform for free – using the tired old excuse they should “do it for the exposure.”
Management committee Locog are already a laughing stock in rock music quarters after asking whether long-dead Who drummer Keith Moon was available to appear at the event.
And they recently drew the ire of live music fans by confirming all acts who play at the opening and closing events in London will be miming.
Bands including Paul McCartney, the Stereophonics, Snow Patrol and Duran Duran have been confirmed to play, while the Sex Pistols, the Who and Paul Rodgers all declined.
Now the fatcat bosses are being criticised for spending £11billion on the international athletics event – more than the already-extended £9.3billion they were allowed to spend.
And instead of trying to renegotiate “bad deals for the taxpayer” including paying double the agreed amount for security arrangements, Locog appears to be trying to save cash by ripping off professional musicians.

hey how about that humilating shambles G4s??????
The CEO of G4s has had his arse kicked last week, in front of a government committee.
What sticks is, G4s still intend to take a management fee for presiding over this shambles. The fee, wait for it......... is £54 million!! That is our tax £'s.
The Army & Police have already stepped in to fill in the gaps in security.
BA launched a new Olympics themed advert yesterday which is quite clever BUT the REALLY clever bit is you can put in any UK postcode or address (or try both) and "thanks to CGI and Google Maps", the advert will include the B777 taxiing up your road!
No idea if it will work with zip codes etc.

Now that is very cool and a lot of fun!
3 days away now for the Opening Ceremony and the start of the 2012 Olympic Games! I'm really starting to get excited about the whole thing but I can sympathise with anyone who works or needs to be in London over the next two weeks.
Anyone want to guess on who might be lighting the Olympic flame? One thing for sure, it won't be the Queen in a white trackie and gold trainers.

After being snubbed from Team GB - I would like that honor to go to David Beckham - i might be in a minority of one - like it or not, David Beckham is the one sportsman who is recognized the world over.
If not Beckham, i think it may go to our 5 times Golden Olympic Champion, Sir Stephen Redgrave CBE. Who could argue with that!
my kids went to see some of the Bermuda team training yesterday at our local sports facility, -they were walking out towards the track still inside the building and saw this flash fly by the glass door in front of them, - they could not believe the speed of a 100m runner... They also went back and watched one of the swimmers train, but were not so impressed by her speed, - probably as they have seen it before within their club and the differential is not go great.

Hmm, either of those would have been my choice too (along with Daley Thompson or Chris Hoy), but they're a bit obvious. Besides, both of them have carried the flame already. As an off the wall punt, I'm going for either Bradley Wiggins (arise Sir Bradley!) or Stirling Moss. If they have to have been an Olympian then Mary Peters. Let's face it, I haven't got a clue either!
