Topic: My Rig Demo Videos (3 Part Series)

Here are some short recordings of my small stereo rig(s). They consists of an Egnater Tweaker head (15 watts) and a Marshall Class 5 head (5 watts). Each head goes into its own Marshall 1936 Cabinet, these cabinets are both loaded with Celestion G12-65 speakers (favorite speakers) and placed on Auralex Grammas. Guitar is a Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional with 57 classics and upgraded with RS Guitarworks 50's Vintage Wiring Kit.

I used Audix i5 microphones and a Zoom R16 to record these demos. Signal chains are listed in the video descriptions. Thanks for watching! -Seth

The signal chain follows your basic split signal standard procedure.

Output 2 goes into MXR Carbon Copy into front of Marshall.

Great stereo split I listened through my control room monitors then car deck. Nice mix I would use slightly more slap back but hey sounds awesome good job

Ron, should I go with more volume on the slap delay? Let me know, and I'll mess around with it again tomorrow!

I'd say there are maybe 3 quick repeats but I don't have it all on right now. Can mess around with it tomorrow. I had my amps in my music room mic'ed up, shut the door and then ran my cables, pedalboard and recorder out into the living room. I wore headphones and mixed with the headphones. I didn't get my monitor speakers out so I haven't heard the recording through bigger speakers.

I would not change anything other than bring more slap back forward just a little...very little. You should listen through good speaker i think you will be pleasantly surprised. As always all of this is in the ears of the listener

Ok, thanks Ron. I'll listen to it through my studio monitors tomorrow and see how it sounds. I don't normally use a slap delay at all when playing out since I don't have another small delay pedal that I can stash in the back of my rack behind the reverb unit. I do like the added benefit of the short delay though, so probably gonna get either a memory toy or another carbon copy. I have a Vox Time Machine which is nice, but when using as a short delay its just too bright. It sounds good to use out on the board as my long delay but  still doesn't have quite the warmth of the carbon copy. Plus, you can never have too many pedals anyway.. I'll report back tomorrow. Seth, what the hell man. I never knew you were this good!!! It sounds to me like a high energy blend between Joe and Slash. Your bends were spot on and your EJ licks were perfect. Your palm mutes were also very accurate on the Just Got Paid section. The delay sounded great as it was. I can tell you've put hundreds of hours into getting the JB style down and it's been time well spent.

Very very very very impressed mate!

Hey thanks a TON Jonny! I've definitely spent a few hundred hours listening to Guns n Roses ever since the Sweet Child o Mine video dominated MTV back in the day. Funny you mention that cause I never thought I heard any of Slash's style in my playing before today. As far as Joe goes, I'd say I do more listening to him than playing his stuff but I absolutely dig the mid range he commands from his amps and I've set out to make that a part of my sound as well. For the most part I just play a mishmash of whatever comes to mind! -Seth

Great sound going on there and nice playing too.  I checked out some of your live playing too (Cissy - we do this live too) and it's nice to hear you're reproducing live what you get in the 'sterile' conditions of a studio environment.

Jonny, the southern accent makes it sound more sincere wink

Jay: Yes, I have gigged out with those amps in the same configuration as in video. (Usually I prefer that on a Sat night on account of the extra cabinet) In my current band, (we play during the week) I normally gig with 2 class 5 combos OR 2 c5 heads going into a single 2x12 (stereo). Either combination is plenty loud, even with a shield in front. Drummer I'm with now is just as loud as any other I've played with and hits the cymbals A LOT. Still no problem for the amps. We also mic everything too, but still no trouble hearing myself. The Tweaker gets a nice bark to it like you mentioned. The settings in the picture are what I use. Also the mini toggles are on Vintage, Brit, Clean, Normal, Tight. That particular amp sounds best right about half volume, much past and it gets fizzy. Also, my rackmount reverb helps warm up its tone as heard in video. And i have EL34s in her too, smoother sound. Cool amps, try one out if you have the chance.

SOFTMC, Yeah I saw you jumped on that purchase over on Jakey's thread! I love the way the heads look, simple and classic. They can also warm up nicely with a 1x12 or 2X12 cab and an OD pedal for the gain. Volume between 1/4 and half is kind of a sweet spot I've found for me.

Yeah I have been using one at rehearsals and I found best sound for me was all knobs
set to 10 then use guitar the volume . really is a usable little amp without hurting everyones
ears..

Ron,

About the only way you can get a decent clean tone at all out of the amp is on the "Clean" channel with the amp's gain knob low. You can get some nice tones from this amp, but none that will really clean up when you turn your guitar volume down.

I use the clean channel with the gain a little past half with an OD pedal and I can't get much if any clean tone when guitar volume is down. Its just a slightly less distorted tone. This is with a Les Paul though, a Strat will be a little cleaner obviously. They do make higher watt versions of the Tweaker but the 100 watt amps you have will certainly blow the 40 and 80 watt Tweakers out of the water.

In general; I'd say if you were looking for a small and portable amp that yields a lot of tonal options, this amp is a good choice as long as you can make do without sparkling clean tones.
