Re: where you from ?

Cool Indy,

I remember the Lamplighter well. My Ardmore brother is a civil engineer & environmental lawyer who did lots of work for the soccer stadium in Chester. I think they gave him season tickets; he probably already knows about the pub. I missed that World Cafe Noon performance also, but saw Joe every time he played there at night.

Angela,
It's a block east of the Lamplighter.  It use to be Killgallen's before the sales to the new owners, no name yet it's under construction.  It's suppose to be a big soccer bar…oops sorry the wife cried out "bloody Yanks it's football."  I'll send you a PM when they open.

Yep that's me, I do work for Penn Medicine.  Sadly I missed Joe's performances at Free at Noon at The World Cafe some years back.

Whether Yankees or Mets we love them both don't we?

Re: where you from ?

Hi Robin,

I'm visualizing a Delaware County Reunion party...travel back to the ol' stomping grounds...could take a few twists and turns... lol

My cousin is in a really good bar band, all the members have day jobs. They play the Riddle Ale House in Media  alot. (its in the parking lot of the Granite Run Mall) The last time I saw them perform they covered "Secret Agent Man"...what a fantastic song, never heard any band ever play that one.  They play alot of good old rock n' roll to get people up and dancing. wink

Re: where you from ?

The bars across the street from Katz Pharmacy is Burke's which is an Irish pub and has been there forever.  The other bar was the Iron Gate when we moved there in 1991, some franchise owner has is now…the food is terrible.  Both those pubs are on Eagle Road but on Darby Road there is Peabody's and Lamplighter (which is an old persons bar/restaurant…good food).  Killgallen's was there also but is now the English Pub.  I played a few gigs at the Rusty Nail on Haverford Ave, what a dive but the beer was cheap.

I couldn't agree more about Thunderbird, last Sunday I had a cheesesteak with extra cheese and fried onions from Thunderbird. It was really good.

Some sad news though, they tore down the bubble gum factory and they're building a YMCA.

Re: where you from ?

When gary originally started this thread, I think he meant that lots of members haven't entered their location yet so it shows up in their profile to the left of their posts.  I'm a newbee and Coach305 was kind enough to tell me how to do it.  Go to "Profile" on the top menu bar, then click "Identity" and you can enter your current home town.

Does anyone know if there is a way to sort through all Forum members and find all those listed from one city??   Thanks.

Re: where you from ?

Indy, just as long as you never report that Temp Tee Nuts is gone, now known as The Head Nut...that's been on that corner forever and has amazed me how successful it is with so little parking. Is Casey's any good? I think there are two, one near you and one in Upper Darby. My sister use to play guitar and sing on open mic night.

Next time Joe's in town we should all meet up. Robin and I meet up once for dinner and a show, we went to see the Beatle Tribute Rain at the Academy.

Yes the Head Nut is still there and I was in there several weeks ago buying some smoked chili powder but for the life of me I have no idea how that loose candy got in my bag ;-)  Both Casey's are still operating but I haven't heard about them still doing open mic nights.

Our own meet and greet sounds like a wonderful idea.  Now we just have to get Joe to book some shows in the area…being off both the spring & fall tours left us wanting.

Re: where you from ?

Born in Lake Providence, LA, NE corner of the state, on the Mississippi River and an area devastated by the Mississippi River Flood of 1927 (kind of an obsession of mine since my parents were children and remembered it, and my grandfather used to talk about sandbagging the levee).   A small town, my dad owned a "supermarket" before corporations and chains took everything over.  He had a panel truck, customers called in their grocery orders, and my brothers delivered them in the panel truck.

Moved a little further east in LA (Monroe, Ruston, back to Monroe), attended school in 3 different towns.  As soon as I was 21 moved 100 miles west to Shreveport, the NW corner of the state, far enough away to live my own life but close enough to visit family as needed.

Have lived in Shreveport ever since, except for a one year experiment living in the Smoky Mountains in Knoxville (Maryville), Tennessee, where I found out I was a Mama's Girl, basically a flatlander except for visits to the mountains, and a southerner spoiled by mild sunny winters ... so back to Louisiana I came, hungry for the sight of swamps, alligators, Spanish moss, spicy food, and our colorful culture, especially the music.  We're a hot bed of blues and music legends in Shreveport, dating all the way back to Leadbelly, Blind Lemon Jefferson (pre-Chicago), James Burton, John Campbell, Buddy Flett, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, etc.

In a lot of ways it's a backwater town (twin cities separated by a river, population less than half a million), but it's home, my friends are here, and it's a great base from which to travel.  Plus there are about 350 sunny days a year!

Re: where you from ?

I was born and raised in England's second city, Birmingham. I still live close by, about 20 miles south in the county of Worcestershire which is still somewhere in the middle of England, just. I've never lived anywhere else and never wanted to.

Planning on a second home in the Florida Keys, USA, when we win the lottery of course. It's our favourite place in the world, barring the occasional hurricane.
