Topic: Let's have a "Blues in Schools" JB Guitar give away

Hi All
Many of you have heard of “Blues in Schools” effort which what I understand works to get the young interested in the blues which I know is near and dear to Joe as well as I. I was thinking wouldn't it be cool if there could be a competition open to say 12 grade and younger only to write and essay describing what Blues music means to them. And then another requirement to win is to play in front of judges, or provide a video, to determine a winner. Similar to what is done by guitar center except this is only open to High school students and younger.
I would really like to help to inspire the young to this soulful heart felt healing music.
So…..I am fortunate enough to own 5 of Joe’s children as he has said in the past (JB Gibson Custom Shop LP) and I would like to donate one of them as a prize to the winner. Perhaps there are others out there like myself that have severe G.A.S. and would be willing to donate runner up prizes. It would be even cooler if this could be done by JR Adventures.
Of course I will bend over backwards to help.
So you other forum members with G.A.S. what are you thought’s
Cheers Ron from Pelham N.H.

Re: Let's have a "Blues in Schools" JB Guitar give away

I would be honored to be able to help with your endeavor Ron whether it be a cash donation, promotion or whatever. Feel free to contact me if I can be of any use. I think this is an awesome idea!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Let's have a "Blues in Schools" JB Guitar give away

Excellent idea and very generous of you Ron! BTW, it's not talked about much here on the forum, but Joe is involved with a cause called "Keeping The Blues Alive" that I think has pretty much replaced the Blues In The Schools as far as Joe is concerned - at least that's my understanding. Perhaps that would be the best place to get your idea rolling.

Thanks Spider
I am hoping to hear from Joe's camp about this idea. They need to drive this idea it is to big for me. When I start to think of the logistics involved it will require JR Adventures help. But I would love to be able to help in a small part or large if they want. I just think that out there is a young guy or gal from 5 to 16yrs old that can someday be another inspiring blues artist like Joe. It would be great to see someone at a young age with the talent and the knowledge of what the blues is and how it can help people get great tools to follow their dream. That would be my reward. Thanks to all that have commented thus far. Let's see where this goes.
Cheers Ron

hey Ron, extremely nice offer/idea.
I would not 'assume' anything regarding lack of response. I know most of the folks at J&R are so busy with their official office originated tasks that they just can't get back to everyone. Sometimes perhaps its a matter of the message not getting right where it should either. When you said you made a post at the KTBA site, was it through the 'contact' page?
If so, maybe its not getting to the best person? I dunno. In my experience if you keep periodically and politely trying without being a bother (especially if you are offering something, not asking for something) sometimes the stars align and you will get a good response.

I did notice on the FB page that Shawn is the contact. I don't know if that is current or not but I suggest perhaps emailing him  shawn@jr-adventures.com   AND also this email i found on the actual site   donate@keepingthebluesalive.org - the site says that address should also be used for 'other questions'  (I suggest seperate emails, those going to more than one recipient are more likely to be marked as spam)

This is the address listed on the FB page too:

1761 West Hillsboro Blvd. Ste #409
Deerfield Beach, Florida 33442    ? might get the best attention?

If they decide to coordinate/participate please realize it might not end up working as your vision. The criteria and voting/deciding should be well thought out also to prevent any potential hard feelings. That sort of thing can crop up especially when what is the best can be quite subjective. I can also think of an occasion or two where some things didn't end up as originally intended, like various JBXP projects for example so if you have a vision might be good to make that part clear as well.

Otherwise if it is not done officially through J&R, I think they still would be cool about us sharing the links and info here and elsewhere. Even though not everyone is on FB, it is somewhat easy i think to set up an info page to share widely there.

so anyway, basically what i am trying to say is even though Joe and others do read here, I would never take a lack of response here as an indicator or lack of interest or willingness. if nothing else you can also call the office. I know they are very busy too though.
Thanks, again this is very nice!!!!

Hi Jane
Thanks for the kind words yes i am sure they are all extremely busy as am I and many others on the forum. I understand all you said
and will continue to see if the stars align at least for a while.
Cheers Ron
