Re: Opinions about Dobro Guitars

Ozark seem to offer some reasonable quality entry guitars you might like to try.  I've been looking at getting one too and have done a little bit of looking around.  Good luck with the hunt.

Glade to see this post thanks. I have been looking into this. What are considered the best to the worse and what price range are we talking.

Re: Opinions about Dobro Guitars

I don't know about the best-to-worst part, but there are lots of relatively inexpensive ones out there by mainstream makers (Gretsch, Fender, Dean, Wechter, etc.).  As for price, I think you can get a pretty nifty one for $500 or less.  Saw one used on Elderly Instruments that costs $5,500, if you feel like splurging...   wink

Re: Opinions about Dobro Guitars

I bought a Recording King Style-O and I have been very pleased with it. I bought it for learning slide and tuned to open G it sounds really good. The action is quite high which is fine for slide. The list price in the UK was about £440 a couple of years ago (but I got the shop to do an internet price match and saved about £70!)

Re: Opinions about Dobro Guitars

I have played a Dean and I LOVED it, I played a Fender and thought it was ok. For the money I would grab the Dean.

Re: Opinions about Dobro Guitars

I played a Hound Dog and was uninspired. Same with Dean and Fender. Never played a dobro, so I don't know what I was expecting for a sound, but it didn't say "BUY ME." The neck on the Dean felt the best...

Re: Opinions about Dobro Guitars

I own a Fender. It's pretty cool. I mostly play it around the house, because it doesn't have a pickup.
