Topic: Greco Les Paul's
Anybody out there had experience with these... Might swap my Hagstrom Viking for a EG-800... Will be a good sibling for my Epi JBLP... Opinions?

Great guitars, and the 70's ones are either comparable to or better than Gibsons. I have played a few and owned a couple. If you are craving a LP, for a better price and superb build quality, go for it.
I read somewhere (can't remember where to provide a source) that they were made in the Tokai factory...
...I say this as a good thing since Japanese Tokai's rival Gibson for quality (if only more of them had a nitro finish...)!!

The 70's models came from the Ibanez factory as far as I know....not sure about 1980 onwards... Assume it was the same.... They were the Ibanez for the Japanese market... You can see the tuners are exactly the same...

as long as it is japanese it will be good, though that Hagstrom is sexy too...

That's it, it comes down to the fact that I'd rather have a 32 year old MIJ Les Paul than a new Chinese hollow body.

I'd rather have a Hagstrom to be honest. Greco's are similar to Epi quality... there's good ones and bad ones in the bunch.

I'll have to report back about the quality of the Greco, I hope it has a 59 profile neck, it is does I'm sold... I'd love the Hagstrom more if it had a 59 profile neck! Would probably put JB SD's or Klein pickups in it!

Have a look at this site. http://www.guitarsjapan.com/grecoinfopage.html
I have a mid- 80's Fernandes Les Paul and if the quality of the Grecos is anything like that then they'll be far superior to any Epi's.

Well I own a MIJ Epiphone Les Paul (Domnestic Market Model Only with open book headstock) which comes from the fuijigen plant.
It´s a great great guitar and has all the desirable vintage Les Paul Features, such as a Long Neck Tenon and a Solid Body.
I have an Ibanez Lawsuit Les Paul from 76 with the Bolt on neck, its not quite up to a real les paul but its a hell of a guitar with one of the fastest necks I have ever played. It was my number one for years and is a killer rock guitar.
I've had several Japanese Tokai Les Pauls and they were all superb guitars.
The only thing that I found let them down was the electronics and they're easy enough to upgrade.
I only wish I could find a dealer online in the UK..!!
Head over to the My Les Paul forum, they have a forum dedicated to Japanese Les Pauls, some Greco's are better than others and dont forget Orville, Burny, Bacchus, Epi Japan, Tokai.....the list is endless!
I had a Burny Randy rhodes for a while and that was a superb guitar, sold it on that very forum!
