Topic: Mad Professor Golden Cello

Anyone try it? It's supposed to be Eric Johnson's violin tone in a box.

Re: Mad Professor Golden Cello

This pedal sort of excited me back in late June when it came out, but from every demo I've heard, it sounds very compressed and muddy.. I was going to stop at guitar center and try one out but realistically I can get a similar but better tone already with my carbon copy. I too am interested how it performs with a LP, the demos of the SG sound terrible. It seems more suited for a strat. -S

Re: Mad Professor Golden Cello

The demo sounded cool, and it probably a good single pedal solution to getting a particular (read: EJ) tone, but at the end of the day it is a one trick pony.

I'd say you might be better off getting a really good delay pedal, and a really good overdrive pedal (Giggity perhaps?) and work them together to achieve that tone, with the benefit that you can combine them with other pedals for totally different tones.

Having a delay and drive in the same box may sound cool if your pedalboard is space challenged, but if you already had a delay pedal and a couple of other overdrives it doesn't really stack up (pun intended!) smile

Re: Mad Professor Golden Cello

Yeah especially for the price 199??? Also, if you want to run any effects after it, you're stuck with a delay before them which is fine if you're maybe using a reverb after it but otherwise might not be good. I agree the giggity is a much better option coupled with a carbon copy or electro harmonix memory boy or memory toy.

If the pedal was around the 100 price tag, I would maybe get it and find a use for it in a small rig with a no fuss setup like for open mics or just home/jam at a friends house/band practice rig.

Also the internal trim posts to adjust the delay seem like a pain. And we all know we'd be fooling with them.. All in all, I'd say it looks like a decent pedal that seems to be a good fit for a strat but I'm not really felling it for me.
