Re: RIP Jon Lord

Very sad. Another sad day for music. My condolences to all that knew him.

Re: RIP Jon Lord

I'll post this on here in the interest of neatness...

Jon Lord passed away today, a few hours ago.

I know Joe played with Jon for an album which is yet to be released....my mate also played bass on that album and his wife is best friend with Jon's daughter...so all very sad.

Great loss. One of the coolest men in R and R.

Re: RIP Jon Lord

I too had the pleasure of seeing Jon play with Deep Purple on the Perfect Strangers tour.  Flat out, there was no better rock keyboard player ever.  Jon had truly magical gift.  The world is a bit worse off without him and heaven just got a bit better.

very sad news, a great musician, will be missed by so many sad

RIP

Re: RIP Jon Lord

This really hurts - saw Mk2 Purple and most variants since and what Lord/Blackmore did for rock music in incalcuable.

The fact that hes been taken before the new Concerto could be released or toured just feels like another kick.

RIP Jon

Re: RIP Jon Lord

I feel very sad today with this news.It hits home because DP was my first favorite band.Became my fav going into adolescence.Jons contributions were always great. To me just as important s Blackmores.71 may not be young, but still too early for him to pass.RIP king of theheavy keys!

RIP Jon Lord.

Re: RIP Jon Lord

Sad loss of one of the standout keyboard players in rock history. I had to do some searching, but found the date I first heard Deep Purple. It was Oct. 27, 1968 @ the first and only San Francisco International Pop Festival held @ the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, Ca. This was my first major concert/festival experience and was knocked out by DP playing their hit Hush with that excellent Hammond B3 sound. Also on the bill that day were The Chambers Brothers, Canned Heat, The Grass Roots, Procol Harum, & Creedence Clearwater Revival, who played a new song for the first time that day....Proud Mary. I paid $10.00 which was big bucks for a 15 year old back then.

Re: RIP Jon Lord

This is not good.  Another memory of my younger years lost.
One can sometimes put themselves at a particular time and place by music.  Deep Purple does that for me.  Seeing them at the CA Jam in 75 and then at the Long Beach Arena.  Learning Smoke on the Water in my high school guitar class in the 11th grade.  Putting the Machine Head in the 8 track player in the 57 Chev and taking a trip up the coast to Big Sur.  Good memories.
RIP Jon Lord

Re: RIP Jon Lord

That's just crushed my day. Very, very sad news; not only lost a great musician but a great man all round. I'm thankful I managed to see Jon with Deep Purple and Whitesnake many times and have great memories. RIP Jon, and thanks for great music and the great times.
