Re: Joe in studio with Jon Lord

I'm very excited about this.  Jon is simply the best rock keyboard player ever and this is his masterpiece.  It is soooooooo cool Joe is a part of this.  "Epic" I think is the right word.

Re: Joe in studio with Jon Lord

I heard last week that Jon was not doing so well, - sadly he is another one that has lost out to cancer. RIP. Not good.

We have lost a great figure in Rock, I can remember seeing Deep Purple back in the day and Jon's playing. RIP

Re: Joe in studio with Jon Lord

this just HAS to be shared as a tribute, - perhaps the most famous riff in rock history that a lot of people mistakingly attribute to the guitar when in fact in my opinion it was Jon's Hammond work that gave this song real power, - and watch how Ian Gilllan can trade vocals with Jon's playing :

Re: Joe in studio with Jon Lord

perhaps this thread could be used more as a tribute one? It is interesting that there are so many posts and comments on the subject of Jon so that in itself has to be a tribute. - The keyboard player is too easily overlooked by the often more visible singer and guitarist, perhaps because the keyboards require its user to be fixed to one spot partly concealed from the crowd? So with Jon he let his playing to the talking, - it was always "out there"  as I said above his style was very powerful, but he had a lot more to offer as proven so well with is solo career that took in other styles of music and for that alone he should be applauded.

As I mentioned on the other thread that I stared some time ago he was a good fried of my daughters violin teacher with whom he collaborated on his classical work being part of local music festivals, - some words from him on his website this morning:

It is with great sadness that we have to share the tragic news of the passing of Jon Lord .   Jon was an inspiration to our community, a friend and oustanding classical and rock musician.   Jon's 'To Notice Such Things'  was commissioned and premiered by our Festival in Nuthurst before being recorded to reach no.4 in the Classic FM Charts.  Subsequently Jon performed his piece three times in Shipley Arts Festival: with our professional orchestra, String Academy and a blend of the two.
Jon had an extraordinary career as one of the world's leading rock and classical musicians working as writer and performer with Deep Purple, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra together with orchestras across the globe.  His output included music from 'Smoke on the Water' to his 'Concerto for Rock Group and Orchestra' which was premiered in the Royal Albert Hall under the baton of Malcolm Arnold in the 1969 Proms Season, and again with the LSO in the Albert Hall in 1999.
A wonderful man and musician who will be greatly missed by us all.
